I need to install one of these and am wondering what size I will need. I have a rear corner overflow in my 75 gallon tank. I currently have a strainer at the bottom that the water flows through and goes down into my refugium and sump. Do I need to take the strainer off in order to find out the size? If so, do I unscrew it from the top or the bottom. Trying to stick my hand in from the top and just grabbing and turning isnt working. Thanks for any help with this!

To me that looks like an AGA tank. If it is I would buy there kit and replace that feed line also. It looks pretty choked down in size.

I dont know what type it is and I found a website where I plan on buying the durso standpipe. I just need some help figuring out what size I will need and how to find out if it will be a slip or threaded. Thanks so far.

Can you measure the outside of the threads on the bulkhead from underneath the tank?

that strainer is most likely the standard slip fit. it is probably a standard 1 inch bulkhead. most drains are on tanks less than 200 gallons.

The threaded part that I can see from underneath without removing anything is 1.3/4"

Thats what the guy from the website told me as well. Im leaning toward that but would like to confirm before dropping the $30 on it b/c it isnt refundable.

dude, call all glass aquariums tomorrow and ask what size hole they drill in the standard reef ready 75. i can tell just by looking at it that was sold that way, not modded

yeah, but i will spend more time trying to figure out which parts i will need from lowes and after 3 trips and 2 days it will have been worth it just to get the premade one. im done with DIY for a while

If it is 1 3/4" on the outside, they have 1/8" walls on each side so it is a 1 1/2" bulk head drain fitting. That is standard AGA.

I cant get that image to work. It is a standard 1 1/2" bulhead usually placed inside a 1 3/4" glass hole.

Are those the threads that make it a thread fitting instead of a slip fitting or is that completely different?

In the picture showing the strainer on the drain, how do I get that off? My overflow chamber is fairly deep and I can barely get my hand down there to grab that strainer. Does it screw off or am I supposed to loosen the nut on the underside of the tank?

on my 72 gal bow front its a 1" bulkhead.

just build the stand pipe. it takes like 15 minutes. seriously.

I was really nervous about trying to make one because I have no PVC experience.

mine turned out being quite good actually.

just print this picture and take it to the hardware store with you

loosen that nut from under the tank and you should be able to just pop it right off.
