hey guys, well the more I try and research, the more over-whelmed I'm feeling. Can anyone recommend a DVD that can jump start me alittle more.
Throughout my reading, Im starting to confuse chemicals, good and bad levels,.... should i do kalkwasser drip....reactors, plumbing.... ugh!

your best source for info is here:-) there isnt a single dvd or even a box set that i know of that would even come close to the knowledge here.

it is over whelming when you start off but with your set up being only 55 gallon you can get by with two part solution for your calcium demands and just keep doing good water changes every two weeks

i second that. a 55gal is a good starter size. start off small and then work your way up. This place is much better than any DVD you will be able to find.

Just my opinion, but I say skip the kalk drip, reactors, and dosing for now. Get your tank up and running with LR and fish for a little while. That will give you time to do more research and get used to the constant care and maintenance a healthy tank needs. Then once you feel comfortable fish and you think it's time to attempt corals, get a Salifert CA & Salifet dKH test kit and start dosing as little squid said above. After that, I'd move up to adding a reactor and dripping Kalk.

This hobby gets very expensive quickly. It's best to start off small and slow to minimalize your mistakes. Good luck newb!!! Lol, we all were there once ;-)

if you have iTunes... check out the Talking Reef podcast... has a TON of great beginner info and discussions!

Also with a 55g... you can throw out a bunch of stuff that the larger tank people need (like those reactors and such)

What helped me is finding peoples tank build threads on here that were close to the size of my tank. Read through their builds and see what they use... it'll give you a good idea on what you'll need and want to do.
