Dwarf Flame Angel

I really like the coloration of this fish, but have heard mixed reviews on keeping it with a mixed reef. Does anyone have suggestions on a similar fish that may be safe to keep with corals?

These are one of my favorite fish, and at different times, I have had/tried different Centropygetypes, to include the Flame. But each one had a taste for something in my tank, the last one I thought I got lucky, but soon found it eating my clam's mantle. So, they are hit or miss at best. The only "Angel's" I've ever had that were truly reef safe were the Genicanthus, i.e. Lamark / Watanabei, which have interesting markings, but aren't going to have the coloration it sounds like you're looking for.
You might look at some fairy wrasses.

Dwarf angels are very much hit or miss. People have been lucky with them with certain corals in the tank and others not so much. Those who stock variety of corals usually have a problem keeping these guys from nipping on certain corals in the tank. If you truly want to keep one just be aware that you will need to keep a eye on it to make sure they are being a model citizen.

just try one, the odds is on your side and if it didn't work out u can always sell it to a good home.

+1 on this. Flames and coral beauties are safer than many of the other Centropyge, but there's always the chance that you'll get a nipper or coral eater from any of the species. I've even seen people on here mention Genicanthus angels that destroyed brain corals. You'll most likely be fine, but if you do get a nipper you can always trade for another.

I'm one of the lucky ones whose Flame Angel has never bothered a single coral in the four or five years I've had her. However, and I think this may be the solution, I feed three times a day; pellets in the morning, Nori at noon, and enriched brine shrimp at night. I don't think my Flame has time to get hungry enough to pick at corals.
