Dwarf Golden Moray

Does anybody have one of these guys? I need some feedback. Thinking about purchasing one for my reef tank. Any ideas or comments?

Great fish.
They are perfect for smaller tanks and they don't seem to rearrange the aquascaping like other eels.
I have yet to have one eat any fish even small gobies but there was someone on here that had one eat a Yasha Haze Shrimp goby. I think if you keep it well fed it should be a problem.
Due to their small size very important to have a completely closed top or they may find a way out.
I fed mine krill and small pieces of silversides right out of my hand.

never heard of these. how big do they get? how are they with corals/bright light? do they need substrate?

any links to any sites that sell them to look at info?

Possibly depending on the size of the cleaner shrimp and if he catches the shrimp when its molting. I have a friend who has kept a decent size golden with a cleaner shrimp for several months and hasn't had any issues.
It is my understanding that they eat crustaceans in the wild so I would say they can eat the shrimp if the opportunity is there.

Yes he will eat your cleaner shrimp. Not known to frequent the cleaning stations in the wild. If there stopping bye the cleaning station its for dinner.

I have had one for 6 months and love him. The best mannered eel you could get. I just got a crosshatch and collected some ghost shrimp in the local bays to entice feeding. The Dwarf loved the treat and ate a few of them. If you have a cleaner in your tank before you add the eel, the shrimp will most likely be ignored. Here's my dwarf. Again i highly recommend this eel and if you need a source for one at a price about half of what you see them generally go for let me know. Regards, Tim

Any problems with the eel trying to escape. I purchased one this weekend and he took a little while to settle down, but he seems to be settled in one spot. My tank has a cover, but there is still a small area where the eel could squeeze through. He has not been interested in any food.

I have a pair in my reef....very shy...good citizens. Mine eat silversides. Give it a couple of days to settle in....you'll love it!

I have three eels. A millaris, Meletremus and a snowflake with no cover just two strips and a canopy. All have been in the tank for over 4 months and no problems. The biggest thing is to make sure they have a spot to set up shop. Regards, Tim
