dwarf lion tankmates

i am going to put a dwarf zebra lion in a 30g-tall... and was wondering what tankmates to put in with him. what about a big fire shrimp to chill at the bottom? just tryin to figure out how to fill out the tank.

Since it's a 30 gallon tall, I'd say the Zebra Lion pretty much fills it up. Remember, this fish gets to be about 7" and produces a lot of waste. The shrimp wouldn't work as the Lion would eat it up with gusto.

ok, i guess i have a new question then.... an id on the fish. it's really small, with a more compact body shape than normal lions, and has royal blue patches on the side fins... and it has a little fu-manchu moustache. what is he?

hmmm well my guess is a fu manchu lion fish

if the blue are on the pectoral fins and are spots i would say its a antennata lion(aka spot fin) my antennata has a small moustache, not quite as defined.

at the lfs he is listed as a blue-finned dwarf zebra lionfish, and someone said that it is just a variant of the dwarf zebras... but he has the little moustache, and other dwarfs zebras don't seem to.... hmm. nothing in the article from reefkeeping mag looked like him. once i get him situated i will take pics.

Brooke,
I forget the species latin name off the top of my head but I'm familiar with them. (Petstorejunkie, a spot of help here...I know you've messed with these before)

They are a very pretty lion that is uber fragile and doesn't usually do well in captivity. If it is the species I'm thinking of (and not just a funky color morph of a fuzzy dwarf) they are like Fu's in that they are delicate to aclimate, stress easy, etc. If you can get him/her over the hump and eating prepared/varied diet you are probably in the clear. Also, make sure you have a cave or two aquascaped with low flow so he can feel secure.

Nice find....keep us posted/pics
