WOW - very cool.....

Okay, someone brought me one and I had no choice (really) but to put it in my tank (for now at least). HAsnt eaten a thing that I've seen in several weeks. I've tried Mysis, brine shrimp, even waved some small pieces of Krill on the end of a stick. ANy suggestions or ideas?

I need to remember to bring my camera in. They are COOL looking!!

Re: dwarf lionfish

Look for some saltwater minows that's what I fed mine they were alive so they would swim and he would hunt. Just do not feed them goldfish! And or u could get some silver side and try waving that.

How big is your fish? I would try something niceeee and stinky like a silverside (that's strange the krill didnt work).. Score a garlic clove throw it in with the food- and thaw in cold tank water so it retains its shape and oils better.

good luck!

Take a silverside or piece of krill and tie some fishing line through the end of it. Use the line to swim the food around the tank.

Thanks Titus....LOL, you're probably right.

Wolverine - cool idea, I might try that.

Clippo - took some images of my dude today. Don't want to hijack your thread though. I can post them here or just start a new thread.

cool, my dude has some different coloration around the mouth than yours. They are wild looking. My dude was pearched right up front in my tank in a small leather. I am psyched to get home later and process/post some shots.

Made my main sort is complete. I am amazed at how many shots were soft. I wanted to try and keep at ISO 400 and not be wide open to get some DOF. Thus, I was forced to used the flash, and I am glad. It brought out so much more of the fishes coloration. His eyes, and what I am assuming are either vessels or nerves are freaking unreal. Like a lightning storm in his eyes.

Cruising....

So I got some long wire and trailed a Krill soaked in GArlic in front of him. Wiggled off to his side, above and below him. He sort of looked at it but that was about it. I saw him cruising the tank this AM hunting around. It has been probably 4 weeks since I've seen himeat anything. AMybe he is getting something but I can't imagine what. This thing can't be living off pods right? They probably don't even eat them. He's about 4 inches long. Silversides are next I guess. My friend is convinced if he was hungry he would have struck at the Krill, that he must not be hungry. I am not so sure I agree.

Man the eyes on that thing are amazing!
My friend had a dwarf and it's eyes were the richest blue color.. your fish has some awesome patterns going on..

You didn't have any shrimp/crabs in there or anything that he could have gulped?

I doubt that a lion would eat pods... They go for more substantial prey I believe (usually smaller fish and inverts).

I found this and thought the nutrition part may be helpful.. Supposedly ghost shrimp are a good bet to get your lion eating..

Klepto - thanks for the link. Great article. My buddy suggested the Ghoast shrimp. The fish was out hunting about this AM. Gonna try and have the lights come on late and put some shrimp in there and see what he does.

Yeah, his eyes are pretty blue. The flash seemed to illuminate the inners of his eye...thus the vessels I think are visible and it washed out the blue light that usually reflects off the out part of his eye. It does look wild with the pattern visible though. Here is a non-flash shot.

He scoffed up Ghost shrimp like they were Scobie Snacks! I feel better now that I know he ate. Thanks for that link. He must have been eatting something though I just can't imagine him going 4 weeks with nothing and making it still looking pretty strong.

Good to hear you got him eating! I like that last shot. Smooth composition and usage of shallow DOF.
Id love to see some pics of this thing woofing down some shrimp or something..

I got my fuzzy dwarf and fu-manchu to eat in the QT before putting them in the display. I first fattened them up by just dumping a few live ghost shrimp in the QT. After a few days and they were fat I started impaling the ghost shrimp with a wire coat hanger and teased the lions with it, they quickly learned that the hanger meant food. I think switched from ghost shrimp to krill. In about 2-3 weeks each learned that food came from my hand. They now eat right out of my fingers.

-oh yeah, great pics!

Ive only seen pics of yellow fuzzies, never in person, I hear the yellow ones can be expensive.

AHP - yeah, I think I will have to do the shrimp on a stick thing. If it isn't moving he isn't interested. Need to train this guy though!
