I am getting 16 dwarf seahorses tomorrow and any information would be greatly appericated... I have done alot of reserch on them and already have brine shrimp hatching started .... My tank is a 10 gallon.. expecting to recieve 16 paird horses... looking for idea tank decorations for these wonderful animals... tank right now has dead rock in it and a few plants and hitching pots... looking for ieads what to add to the tank to make the horses happy... and looking how to acclimate these wonderful babies.

Although I do have live plants in my tank, one of the favorite hitches for my dwarfs is a plastic Hairgrass plant. You can get that at any LFS.

Since you've already researched a lot, I won't go into the fundamentals of keeping dwarfs. My tank has been running about 4 years now. Aqua-Clear filter, IceProbe chiller, feed enriched bbs 2x-3x a day.

Any specific questions you may have, feel free to post.

I am getting my seahorses today... just excitely waiting for them to get here... so sorry no pics yet...I also have a shaving bruch plant coming with them and some caulerpa.. also in the order are three different colors of gorgonia..I will post some pics once I get it all set up...my dwarfs are supposed to be all different colors... solid green, yellow pink.. some mixed.. will have to wait and see what i get....maybe once you all get to see the pics you can give me an idea for what else to do to the tank... and yes I am also running a sponge filter.... just not sure how strong the water flow should be for this size of a tank.. 10 gallons.

I just got them acclimated into their new home... it all went wonderful... they all look healty and all are eating....my tank is so full of plants that I may have to cut baack.... the person who I ordered them from sent me almost twice as many things as she was supposed to.... I am very pleased... wishme luck i think my big red boy is pregnant..... he has a swollen belly.... going to keep an eye on it.... as soon as I can get some decent pictures I will post them somewhere so you all can see my new herd....I will let you all know how it goes... wish me luck....

My 6.6 gal Dwarf Tank

My 6.6 gal Dwarf Tank

Hello,
I have my Dwarf Seahorses in a 6.6 gallon bookshelf aquarium.

Other things in the tank:
*carribsea live sand/mineral mud mixed for substrate
*2 lbs liverock (dead then recycled in my reef)
*2 sponge filters
*50watt heater
*dead sea fans
Live items also in the tank:
*tiny hermit crabs
*asst snails
*2 glass anemone shrimp
*pair of pipefish (will go in reef when larger and replaced with dwarf pipefish)
*feather duster worms
*yellow and purple whip gorgonia
*ricordia
*zoanthids
*red tree sponges
*shaving brushes
*caulerpa
*ulva
*cheato
*tons of amphipods, copepods and isopods (rollypolly/pill bug looking things)

I have a bunch of babies right now. I raise the fry in a small fish breeder till they are 2-3 weeks old then the breeder is taken out.
IMO this breeder works great for raising dwarf fry. For the first week I do head counts on the babies for every feeding (3x/day). Every once and a while a baby will slip out of the side slits. They grow really fast (as long as you feed them well) and this hasn't been a problem for me at all. Keeping the fry in the breeder provides the babies great food concentration that slowly disperses into the main tank and the same water quality as the adults.

I normally feed the tank 2x a day. I do water changes every 2-3 weeks. When I have fry I do changes every week because I feed so much.

Hope this helps with your new ponies...

sure does help... i am really new to keeping dwarf seahorses....any advice is greatly appreciated.... i am using a 10 gallon which i am beginning to think might be alittle to big... they seem happy and healty ... i might be over feeding due to too much room in the tank but i am keeping it clean and keeping an eye on all water conditions with tests almost everyday .until i see how stable my tank will stay... my male was not pregnant... most of the seahorses I got seem kinda of small... like they are pretty young... i can tell the size difference between some of them...2 of my males are larger than the others but they are catching up to them.

I have been considering about ordering dwarfs from ccritters.com and was wondering how your luck has been with your horses? Do you highly recommend?

I do highly recommend them... I have only lost one of the horses i got from them and i am pretty sure that was due to a bristle worm .... i never did find any remains... since then i have gotten rid of all of the worms and the horse are all doing very well.... they all still seem very happy and healty... no babies yet though... i will post pics as soon as i figure out how to take pictures of them.... i took some but they didn't turn out

I will probably go ahead and place an order with them then. I think I am going to go with their mated pair instead of the regular pair. Also he said the mated pairs are tank raised vs. wild caught like the regular pairs. I never knew a bristle worm could kill a dwarf. Stupid worm!!!

I haven't found much infromation on breeding dwarf seahorses...I think i have a pair that has finally mated... can someone tell me where to find more information on this part of their care....They danced around for a couple of hours rubbing their bellies together.
