I purchased some baby nassarius snails about a month ago at the lfs. Turns out that one of the snails was actually a hermit crab, a dwarf white leg hermit crab as far as I can tell. He is a master of cleaning crushed coral, almost never stops working and doesn't bother any other tank inhabitants. I went back to the LFS to explain what happened, trying to pick up a few more the little guys. Come to find that they don't carry dwarf white leg hermits and never have. "It must have came in with the nassarius snails." he tells me. Then says "Damn, wish I would have seen him, I would have snatched him up." Lucky me :bum:
Dwarf white leg hermits seem to be great substrate cleaners, and very reef safe for corals and snails. They wont go on the rocks, but they clean the substrate very well. I wish I could get some more of these guys.
Very bad picture, but you can see him cleaning some crushed coral, He never stops. Picks up a piece and spins two or three times, then grabs a new piece and repeats.
