Dwarfs and Bluestripes

Quick question. Can dwarf seahorses and bluestripe pipefish be kept in the same aquarium? If not compatible, can they be kept in the same aquarium, separated by a, well, separator?

Thanks for your time, Meus.

Mixing Syngnathids is always a crap shoot, even under the best conditions and experienced keepers.

Assuming you're getting CB zots, this will be an even bigger issue since there are no CB bluestripes available, so you'd be mixing CB and WC fish, which is an even bigger problem.

hello my name is Alex and i live in chicago, just registered yesterday because i wanted some expert advise since you cant find that at petco....anyways bought this tank off some guy on craigslist about 3 months ago...it came with 70 pounds of live rock, protein skimmer for 90 gallons, two heaters...as far as fish go i have a porcupine puffer small size, a maroon clownfish, dwarf lionfish, niger trigger medium, sweetlips clownfish small, a foxface medium....they all get along well they dont mess with each other they are all eating.....i was wondering if they will be ok in my tank or how long i could keep them there before i would have to buy a new tank...i really like all these fish would really hate to part with any one of them.....

Alex,

You'd get the best responses to your questions if you post them in the FISH ONLY FORUM.

However,

You didn't say what size your tank is, which you'll be asked.

That being said, sweetlips typically don't do well long term, and if they do, they don't look ANYTHING like the fish you have now, and get quite large.

The porcupine puffer will also get pretty big (15" or so) and may or may not nip on the fins of the lion.

Maroon clowns just get plain nasty, but should do OK with that mix.

Rather than giving you the rundown on the lionfish (I kinda specialize in keeping Scorpaenformes), I suggest you give Frank Marini's excellent article on LIONFISH CARE a read.

HTH

Thank you for replying. Meus.
(p.s. I have never had someone jack my thread :lmao:)
