Dwayne's SPS Elos Tank from Canada

beautiful.

are you using the Vida rocks ? if so how do you like them? did you have to soak them at all ?

thanks

Awesome corals! I love your colors!!!
Congratulations

Thanks yano, maybe with the bulb change it will get even better, we will see shortly. Have to find a way to cram in some RB led's to get some extra pop!
I am running dual Radions on my Elos 70 at work with mixed success as a trial, once I feel comfortable with them I will switch my current light

Vida Ceramic, thats right. I was one of their guinea pigs here in the great white north. I picked up several pieces at Macna in 2010 and started this tank from scratch with the custom piece plus my Bonsai LR which was actually completely dead. My work tank is 100% Vida with zero seeding at all. Its a test tank and have many interesting results

VERY NICE

what light unit are you using ?
whats the length of your tank

The tank is 5ft by 2ft by 2ft, standard Elos system 150 I believe.
The light is a 5ft 8 bulb ATI Powermodule. Had to custom order it because it is not a high volume seller for sure. Not many places carry a huge assortment of 80w bulbs anymore. New bulbs are on the way this week, pretty stoked to get them in and blasting

beautiful!

what type of BP's do you use?
Do you have pictures of the the bare rocks?( when you first set up?)

I use Vertex pellets for no other reason than thats what my Fishguy had in stock. I still dont know if they do anything except cause cyano. My seperate frag tank had BP and I took them off 4 months ago and still have small cyano issue.I blow my rocks off every week in the display as it grows on the base of SPS and makes it difficult for pieces to encrust properly
Will try to find some start up pics, they are not pretty :)

Here are a few pics to see where I have come from in less than a year.

Sure shows that it has to look worse before it looks nice ! A trip down memory lane for sure. Also saw a bunch of pics of nice pieces I had and lost, sad really.

Thanks

Dwayne

Have tried it both ways. Main display piece I did soak for a month in RODI and a powerhead.
My work Elos I just threw right in, oddly I had less trouble with the pieces I just threw in but that could be just coincidence.

I did fight dino/diatoms for a long time in the DT, not sure if that had anything to do with the Ceramic or not but it was bad, almost beat me. I pushed through and managed to come out the other side though :)

Vida says you can simply rinse them off after you get them and stick em in your tank. Apparently ceramic is completely inert.

thank you Dwayne :) really glad u pulled through the rough times, and the outcome is amazing :)

I think Im gonna grab a bonsai piece this week to try.

Hi, Beautiful tank you have there.
I really like the ceramic rock.
By the way, what is the dimension of that tank?

thanks

Very kind thanks !
I am happy with mine and have now proven that at least in the short term you can have success with ceramic. Only time will really tell but so far so good

very nice ! i love to see before and after shots .. it shows the time and dedication you put into it

Thanks afernandez, most non reefing people would think I am a nut. I dont really even tell people what I do, takes too long. :)

Wonderful scape and great sps collection

Inspiring.

Thanks Brad, at first the scape looked pretty bleak, but give it another year and we will see then

Thanks BHD, the tank is an Elos 160 60"L 24" W 24"D I believe, might be a bit off but that sounds right. I have a hole in my floor (live in an old Farmhouse) that goes down to my sump/frag tank in the basement. One of my best investments ever in this hobby for sure, getting everything downstairs out of sight

Another sold to me as SSC but it is has very light colours, like a Zeo tank SSC, still awesome though. Will eventually move it to less light and see if it darkens up

Sold as Purple Monster but no lineage. I like it though

Red Planet - unfortunately the left side is really, really slowing RTN'ing on me while the right side flourishes, we will see what happens - have another mini colony and several frags as a back up

Ill save the rest for a rainy day
