Dwayne's SPS Elos Tank from Canada

Thanks Mike. If you are available I am thinking about having an "Open Reef" Sunday 10-2pm hoping all the people that have been PM'ing me would be able to drop by to have a look at the tank. Its the first day Ive had to myself in a while. Will post up on the other site when its for sure. Might be nice to get a bunch of reefers together

This is a great idea indeed! keep up posted or send us the details!!!!

I am definitely running out of room. Have two dozen LE sticks to plant and no where to go. And the worst part is I do not want to remove colonies (even if they are not as cool as the new LE's) because the tank will look like its taking a step backwards. For now I am trying to grow out the LE frags into nice sized mini colonies then will find a spot for them

I know what you meen! been hanging around RR too much lately also and I have a handfull of sticks that need space but refuse to take apart the tank as it would look too bare!

LMK, might be interesting to get a few of us nut bar reefers together :bounce1: about to drop another load of cash @ RR

between you and Dwayne I know exactly were all the good stuff goes!!!!

That is a good sign. I know in my tank my alk and ca demands increased quite suddenly... it happened without me realizing it and I had to double check my tests as I thought they were artificially low... but alas the corals must have gotten to that point that they wanted more and more.

It is amazing to think that is how reefs grow, little bit by bit... and eventually you can get a built up of reef and sediment (from things like parrot fish grinding up coral) collecting and along comes some drifting coconuts and and birds pooping seeds and viola! You have an island!

Everything about this hobby is pretty amazing. Its truly incredible that we do what we do. Like snap off a piece of an animal then glue it somewhere else and it grows into a full animal again :)

Will decide about the time tonight, just have to ask the boss !

I get the leftovers, trust me :)

Very nice tank.

Thanks Chavez !

Thought I would change things up and post up some pics of my work Elos. Maybe I will start a new thread for this one if people like it

I completely took this tank apart about 4 months ago. Have had so so success. Having some nutrient issues lately and have been toothbrushing HA and some bryopsis, not fun. The SPS is growing well enough though even through the poor conditions

Pics suck, Ill warn you. Tried taking a bunch with my Galaxy but cant get the WB right

BUt crappy pics are better than none right ?

Like I said not great but gives you the idea.

Love the rock work. Pictures aside I see an awesome bonsai in the making! Now who's the maniac? :celeb1:

Dang, I would have loved to meet you guys but im going to be in Ottawa this weekend. Next time.

Dwayne That aquascape is so sick. Did you get any aggression among the leopard wrasses?

Im just disturbed, you are the maniac for sure! I have never taken any good pics of this tank. With it up against the huge windows and no blinds I have found it impossible. Stupid LED's don't make it any easier either. I was going for Bansai/minimalist type rock work but I ended up with too much anyways. Maybe next time :)

THanks ! Too bad you can't make it. Im sure Ill get a lot of that because I left it too late

Dwayne

Well its official, I have the go ahead from the boss for the open house!

So come one come all if you can make it out. Nothing official just myself and whoever can make it to talk shop and if you see something you like we can send you home with it. I have lots and lots of frags downstairs of everything from 10 dollar sps to red dragon frags plus everything in between.
NO pressure and no egos, all are welcome. Worst case I will have some quiet time to myself as Im sure the family will make themselves scarce :)

So.... 10am to 12pm Sunday Oct 7th, pm me for directions and my cell but we are between Ingersoll and London, very easy to get to, 5min off the 401

Hope to see some people drop by

Dwayne

Well after almost a year between visits i gotta say the tank was nice last year but this year its really kickin'

One of the best I've personally witnessed......just beautiful. TOTM quality IMO. Bravo.

The wrasses do get a little snarly once and a while, mostly during feeding but for the most part they seem to be pretty happy. I have one of the Golden Nugget wrasses from PNG in there right now and he is my favorite. I have not seen another one which is pretty cool in my book

The aquascape was custom made then broke in shipping, had to do some creative Gorilla gluing to get it where I wanted it. I am pretty sure hat given the time I will move the two pieces closer together to get the look of one piece and even more open space. Will have to cut down on the acro pieces if I do that but thats my plan.

Dwayne

WOW, coming from a guy who has an amazing tank himself really makes me feel good!

I dont know about TOTM at all but I sure appreciate the kind words.
You actually inspired me to do a little cutting last night. Made some room for a few pieces to grow and removed the Purple Dragon and replaced it with the Sarmentosa, hoping it will get even better. The PD will have to wait for a new spot, for now its on the sand

Cut pieces of
Red Dragon
24k Milli
Palmers blue
one small piece of Rocket pop for a certain guy :)
Purple dragon
Northern delight
The A.Spathulata that is very cool.
and a few others I cannot remember the names of, my frag racks are full again !

Will try and get a few pics to tease everyone hahah

Hope it works out better for you then me. I took mine off and packed it. Found it too cumbersome to pull off every weekend for cleaning including having to drag the cord and plug with it. The bestvwas water would leak into the top cup where the electronics are during cleaning. If I left it for 2 weeks the crud build up would become so heavy it would fall back into the skimmer and drop to the bottom like a turd. Hauling my Supermarin250 out of the sump for flush out negated the value of the cleaner. :headwally:

On a brighter note, nice work with the frags :bounce1:

I am leaning towards the same conclusions. Im lucky though, can reach the laundry tub (just) to wash it with a hose and brush.

Looking like more of a toy than a serious piece of hardware
Seemed like a good idea at the time

Frags have been selling fast and furious lately! I can actually see a bit of eggcrate right now. Have some room to cut a whack more.

Had trouble with the WB with just the blues on but they werent too bad

Thanks guys, I was really unhappy with the colour so went back and shot some more. These are very close to real life colour
