Dying Fish

Hey guys,
So I have a 90l Tank. Had 2 perculas and 1 chelmon rostratus. The 2 perculas jumped out of the tank and died and the chelmon rostratus was dead today in the tank.
All analisys are normal, salinity and temp also. Any ideas?

I have no specific ideas, being new to this. Just tossing out a few things I've read about.

Stray voltage?
Done anything different with the tank lately? Food, supplements, etc?
Done anything you've always done but with a new supply/package? Again food, supplements, etc.? There was a bad deal with Kent Reef Carbon a short while ago.
Any other live stock such as corals, invertebrates? How are they doing?

People will probably ask you for the specifics regarding the measurements. The more detail and info you post, the more the experienced aquarists will be able to better help you.

Whats "all anaylsis are normal?" Please provide some actual parameter numbers, the age of the tank, etc. Sounds like somethings off with the water. Either that or you have really bad luck.

Do you use a skimmer, powerheads etc? Is there a lot of water movement? Could be low oxygen.

hey guys... so its a 90 liters tank. I have about 10kg of live rock and a couple of crabs... Got a exterior filter (eheim) and a powerhead just to give circulation to the tank. I got a soft coral and thats all. Before this I had a couple of perculas and a chelmon rostratus. Did the tests today: Temp. 24ºC pH:8,2 Nitrits and amonya:0,0 Kh:10 salinity:1024 and the only things thats off are the nitrats:0,10mg/l. Any ideas?

Well, that's 23 U.S. gallons, which is way too small for a butterfly. And that butterfly is difficult even under ideal circumstances.

How long has the tank been running? Your current parameters are ok, the nitrates aren't that high. However, new tanks (especially smaller ones) are not very stable, so the parameters can fluctuate a lot.

Also, all my tanks are covered now with bird netting after a few episodes of jumping fish.

Hey! But is it normal for perculas to jump? I cover it yesterday with a acrilic glass, this way they won´t jump. Ok maybe the chelmon rostratus was just bad luck because of the size of the tank. The tank matured for about 3 months, and all parameters stabilized.

Clowns do jump sometimes. Just start slow and stick with small fish.

Exactly. Sometimes the obvious is the answer. Clowns can jump, your tank isn't covered, and you kept a very difficult BF in a tank that isn't even close to being big enough.

IME, any fish (even my big tangs) can jump. Any loud noise, lights turning on, or sudden external movement can scare a fish.

Instead of an acrylic/glass lid to cover the tank, I'd get mesh net from BRS (they have a great DIY video tutorial).

Your water parameters are OK, I wonder if there's an external factor to the fish deaths (like kids throwing stuff into the tank, using kent carbon, stray electricity, as mentioned earlier).

The 2 clowns jumped during the night. The only light was the blue led of the tank lights. I´ll have to start again with smaller and easyer fishes like you say. thanks
