dying plate coral-not a long tentacle

hi. i've had this orange plate coral in my tank for about 1.5 yrs. i added a stream pump, and didn't realize that some sand had piled up onto it's corner. when moving it out about 1/4 of it had died. can see bare skeleton. i moved it to a low flow spot, and have been feeding it silversides/mysis every night hoping it would get better. now, (about a week later) the skeleton is exposed almost half way. it's almost up to its mouth, and the mouth looks a little weird now. kinda poofy on the side next to the skeleton. was hoping someone could help me out. not sure if i should try cutting the good part or what. i really love this thing, and hope i can save it with some help. thanks, lawrence

Maybe there is some sort of infection. Don't know if you can frag them but they wouldn't look good afterward. Check the perameters, if they are spot on that can only help.
