dying super.....kryptonite in the tank?

water change complete, alk up to 3.5 now

we'll see how things fare

during the water change I noticed that I had an apparent disaster in my tank without my knowledge, apparently there was an explosion or something in my sump because although it was dry, there was salt EVERYWHERE under my stand...the salinity in the tank was not that low, though, and the skimmer had stopped working

I cleaned the pump and removed a snail from the impreller and it works great now, so maybe things will return back to normal in the tank

I must be crazy, I can't remember the last time I went without checking the sump.

I probably check the sump every few weeks...I can basically hear everything that goes on, so when it was eerily silent I knew I needed to check and low and behold the skimmer had quit

but in hindsight, prior to that it was running louder and the skimmer was splashing a lot (could explain the salt , but not all of it) so maybe the skimmer was sweating it prior to quitting on me
