hello,
im new to marine aquaria and so I dont know very much about it... i have a 54g tank with 10turbo, 15blue leg hermits, 1 wrasse, 1 tang, 1 brittle star, lots of liverock, 1 hammer coral, and one xenia. there also seems to be lots of new growth of long corals that look like star polyps, and an odd white star like growth on the base of the hammer coral that retracts when i touch it... the problem is that my xenia always seems unhappy and does not pulsate, and looks wilted. my hammer is also contracted and looks really unhappy. everyone else seems fine... any ideas?

get test kits for: ph, salinity [refractometer], Salifert tests for calcium, alkalinity, and test strips for nitrate, nitrite, ammonia. The last 3 should be 0,0,0. Your cal should be 420-450 and your alk should be 8.3-9.3. Salinity s/b 1.025. Ph 8.3. Temp 80. Any deviation from the readings above should be corrected. There are additives to help with alk and cal.
