So is it official that there is no way to get a free host name and ddns support through dyndns? I just set mine up 2 days ago, and when I go to cancel it stresses that everything will be lost. I am just hoping its a bluff and that they don't go through the trouble of cleaning out the cancellations. Anyone confirm or deny before I cancel?

It's official. No free account after the initial 30 day trial period. If you cancel, yes... it's gone.

People that have free accounts from before the change have to manually log in to their account at least once every 30 days to keep it free.

I made the mistake not logging in within 30 days. I went to login to my apex and it is no longer accessible.

There is no good free service I don't think....I bucked up and paid for a year of tzo dot com service. $24.95 well spent. No more headaches.

You should still have the free account. Your domain name just expired. I made the same mistake and I was able to use my free account to set up a new domain name.

I believe you can still get a 30-day free trial, but at the end of 30 days if you don't pay them your service is cancelled.

In the past, after 30 days you could convert the "Pro" service to a free, one domain only service. But they've done away with that now. People that already had the free service have been grandfathered in, and will retain the free account... as long as they log in once every 30 days. If you forget, as FF337 did, your free account goes bye-bye.

I let my hostname expire back when they originally sent out the email about deleting unused hostnames. I could no longer access my controller from the web. I was still able to log on to my account at dyn.com. My status was listed as 0 of 1 hostnames being used. I was able to create a new hostname without creating a new account. Although the list of available names was much smaller for the free accounts. All this was greater than 30 days ago. The new free trial is only 14 days. My point is if your hostname has expired it might be worth a shot to log on to your account on dyn.com and try to create a new hostname.
