So, as we discussed the meetings will be quarterly. So that makes the next meeting September the 8th on a saturday... However...

We need to discuss a next place of meeting..
Kathy said that she would of course, and be more than happy, to host the event again without a problem.. and same as before refreshments would be on her. She will probably do a sale or something for members of the group... I dont know... we will see.

If we want to have it at Valley Tropical fish again then we would need to bump the date to September the 15th on a saturday because Kathy will just be returning from a cruise and she would like to be here for the meeting...

Any suggestions on what we should do again? I really dont want to do another fragging demo. But I will be more than happy to give some kind of short (~30mins) seminar on corals, or collection, or something ... whatever.. you guys can decide if you wish... Of course, someone else can start a discussion... we are all in it together.

Lets come up with a definitive date and place of meet.

Anyone who has frags.. bring them. If we decide to do it again at Valley, I will put together a small placement tank for everyone to bring their frags and that way we can place them in a holding tank, so they dont have to sit in a bag all day.
You can even bring them a day in advance, just to have them already here and open for the swap.

Cant wait for the next meeting...

Sounds great. I cant wait to meet everyone again. This time i got a couple of mushroom frags that are coming along nicely and should be ready for the meeting. Ill try to post some pic this weekend when i get a chance.

We still need to decide on a meeting place, date, etcc..., I wish more people in our area would get involved, but I suppose I am rushing things, concidering, this would only be our second meeting!! duh...


If no-one has any comments or suggestions than, by default Valley Tropical Fish will be the place of meeting... This default meeting place will take place by September 8th, one week pre-event.

This is only fair because, if not, everyone would be lost as to where it is this quarter. Plus, Kathy would like enough time to get things together like refreshments/food/party stuff...

Lets decide quickly so that we can all start planning... and so if I am doing a speach I will have enough time to make my notes LOL....

LOL, I would love to do a speech on that!... However, I think that kind of speech my overwhelm a few hobbyists that will be attending this meeting!( BORE THE CRAP OUT OF MOST ) Not to mention that I am not qualified, and have not done enough research on that topic to give a good explanatory speech. Philip, your welcome to do a speech on this, or Importation or corals, Permits, coral disease... wait, no, we will leave that one up to Eric Borneman....

BTW: did you mean Zooxanthellae Genotypes? As in the species of dinoflagellate that inhabits coral tissue?... Wait.... Zooxanthellae are dinoflagellate's right?... OFF I GO TO GOOGLE!!!

I am giving this thread a bump. Just incase some havent noticed it and would like to come to the next meeting. But i did want to clearify the date because two dates were mentioned above. the first being on September the 15th and the second mentioned was the 8th. You mentioned that Kathy would like to be there and i think thats always a good idea to have the owner of the shop there for special events like this. Unless someone else has volunteered to host it? Anyways i can come to either date. And Philip Root, thats a mighty detailed subject you requested for a speech..lol. I dont think i would understand a word of it but i sure would smile and shake my head like i understood every word.. Maybe you would like to visit us and give us a speech or demo. I am sure you would come up with something interesting. One more tiny question would those pictures of the living reef store be your store by chance

It was a cool meeting that was for sure. I learned how to frag mushrooms. Now i have more then just three. I have losts of them that i got from cutting the original ones into forths. Before the last meeting i was afraid to cut them but shawn showed us how and it didnt seem so hard. Now i got some that are big enough to frag again when I am ready to make more.

Hey guys, good to hear there will be more attending this meeting!

As of September the 8th, or This saturday the default meeting place (Valley Tropical Fish) is where it will be held again. Just so we can prepare for the meeting...
* Remember the meeting is September 15th, NOT THE 8th, I said that to give a good weeks preparation for the event.* Hope thats clear...

Like I said, There will be refreshments and snacks again. and If there are no objections to the meetin being held at Valley again, I will be setting up a frag cubicle station for everyone to bring their frags in to trade/sale to other hobbiests. Everyone is welcome to bring stuff... Each person will be assigned a small cubicle for their corals to be housed in, that way everyone won't be worrying about the frags being stressed, and can relax and enjoy themselves during the daily events.
I myself might be interested in some cool zoas, or acros... montis... anything rare * HINT HINT! haha
Im sure that Kathy will be doing some sort of sale in honor of the meeting, and to thank everyone for attending.

The "meeting" starts at 1pm today..
there will be a group discussion at 2pm on club related issues, future events and a few other topics.

Apparently there was a HUGE mixup with the dates...

There will be another small meeting again on the 22nd. Same as stated above and it will start at 1pm! the discussion will be at 2pm to give everyone time to get there.

LOL! the plan is, NOT to have meetings durring the middle of football season! there was like 3 people to show up! lol... that being said, we, if everyone wants to, to only have 2 meetings a year, every six months, one in Janurary and one in July...

Gah,I did realize how dedicated some people are to their games... haha...

Sorry i missed the meeting I was totally set to attend but completely forgot about my sons boy scouts fishing trip Saturday. I had hoped to be done before the meeting started but by the time we got home I was so exhausted and pretty smelly, and covered in mud:lol: By the time I would of gotten cleaned up and to Valleys I would of missed the meeting. I sure hope the next meeting turns out with more members. I personally enjoy meeting other reefers and learning their tricks of the trade. And shawn I hope your tank a speedy recovery. I caught your thread about the carbon. Yikes!!

Yeah I too would love to have one once a month but I believe we are having a problem even getting people to attend quarterly. And once a month might be too much for some of the busy reefers. We really need a local reef club and its certainly hard trying to get this one off the ground and running. I believe we can make it a long term successfull club. Any ideas from other area clubs please let us know so we can get EARS up and running. Our first meeting was awesome and I truely hope we can have more like that one with lots of members attending. I know that shawn is doing his best to get us up and running. :thumbsup: Keep up the good work and you know you got my full support.

yeah...i have never been in a reef club so once a month maybe to much but we used to have car clubs meetings like the 3 or 4th sunday of the month and those that could make it cool and those that couldnt cool but it was always same time and place...then we would talk about events we wanted to plan or shows to go too....maybe have "get togethers" once a month for those that can and have a big shindig quarterly???

I understand the frustration from some of you who want to have regular meetings but cannot get the participation of others. I also understand that many people have things going on that get in the way of attending on a regular basis. Family, sports, and sometimes work take priority over attending a meeting of a club that people know very little (or nothing) about. We will soon be getting into the holiday season and it will probably get even worse.

My recommendation would be for someone (maybe the most frustrated one or two) to just make the decision to start your club. Decide on a meeting day once a month and find a LFS to host or host it yourself. Announce the meeting and invite others to attend. If they come, fine; it they don't come, fine. You will have your club even if it's only two or three people to start with. When the other people realize what is going on, they will come too. Some people will come one time and you'll never see them again. Others will come and like what they see and you'll have a steady member. Everybody won't be able to come to every meeting, but you will still have your club. It will grow as more people recognize the benefits of talking with each other, asking questions of more experienced reefers, and swapping frags.

If you're waiting to find a date and time that suits everybody it will be a long time before you have a club.

In summary: Somebody step up to the plate and announce that we will have a meeting of the E.A.R.S. on October ?? at ?:??PM at location ???. All reefers are invited to attend!
