Hello, my name is Darrell and I have been reading all of the post about forming a reef club in the Gadsden/Anniston area and I feel it is time to get it going. I am willing to do the early organizing work such as hosting the first meeting, writing by-law, making lists and contacting people if there is enough interest. I feel we need at least 6 regular members that will come to the meetings and we can go from there, so if interested post a reply or PM me.

I am a 23+ year reef keeper and past officer of the Northeast Alabama Aquarium Society (freshwater) group.

im pretty new to the reef aquarium and would love to belong to a local group in this area you mention. i sadly went to the local petsmart in Oxford today and was very disapointed in their *dont blink or you"ll miss the few items* that they carry.. i had a question about my tank going threw the cycle and did find a nice kid that knew some things about it. i am in real need of guildence for places to buy my corals and things for future purchases. im not in a rush to buy but i do like to browse places to see what they carry. i have learned alot just by reading the posts on reef central.

Great to get a responce, it has been somewhat dishearting as I had expected many more responses. The Anniston area has several nice reef shops that are rarely mentioned in the reef channel(trying to keep it a quite :D ) but Valley Tropicals in Oxford and AquaPet an Anniston have good stock and friendly, easy to work with owners that are very helpful.
As for a local club please PM me some contact info and I will contact you if and when we get some more people on board.

Darrell

My wife and I may be interested. We have 3 years into the labor of love and and in our early, (Very early) 40s.......

Ensignpc, I see that you are from Attalla. Did you happen to attend Etowah High School. We may know each other. I graduated in 81.

Valley Tropicals in Oxford

I work here...
I am too interested in a local club, I have been talking to a friend of mine, maybe she will join in, about starting or talking about starting one locally...

This is a good idea, and I think that we need to get together and figure out a way to get it started because, I hate having to travel such long distances to other Local Meetings...

EARS is a great name BTW !

haha

I really hope we do start up a group soon.. Then I can bug you guys with my questions... Instead of Valley Tropicals..:) The people there are so patient with me and answer my questions with lots of knowledge. Im your recent fish store stalker.. Admiring your zoos. I always try to stop in when ever I head into town just to see what catches my eye. Im suffering from the want to get all kinds of things to put in my tank but have to resist the urge to and just start with small frags at least until I know I can properly handle the bigger corals and when my tank matures more. In the mean time I am loving my new pulsing xenia frag. Its doing great! and pulsing like crazy. Its so cool just to sit and watch it..

Hi Darrell.. I ment to ask the really nice people that runs Aquapets if they might be interested in ears. I went there yesterday for a couple of things and forget to ask them about it. They are really nice people full of great info too and i think would be a good asset to our club also. If i get a chance to run down there today ill ask them but its a busy morning with my sons baseball game today:) Im still eyeing that big tonga branch they have down there... Just waiting for the hubby to ok me getting it and keeping fingers crossed that it wont get bought by someone else before i can get it:) They got really nice lr if anyone needs good lr with lots of coraline coverage on it and lots of cool extras growing on it too. A piece i got from them last week has a couple of cool looking hidden coral cups on it and yesterday i was cleaning my tank and one grabbed a big chunk on green algae and its little mouth got really huge and starting sucking it in.. it got the whole piece in and i guess decided it had too much so it slowly spit the now balled up piece of algae out.. It was really cool to watch and my son was just fasinated by the whole experience..

HEY TEENA!
Hopefully, as soon as Kathy gets back we will be the first to host it... I will have to speak with her though.

Hi everyone! I cant wait until we get to have some meetings. There is so much i am sure i could learn for you guys. Speaking of which, does anyone know of a good snail or something that i could get to keep my glass clean. It seems like i am cleaning the front and sides every day which i dont mind but the back is much harder to keep up with. My hubby wants it keeped clear, even though i like the coroline coverage look of other's reefs. Plus it would be easier on me if i didnt have to clean it every other day. Of course he isnt the one that does anything to the tank. Im the keeper of the tank and he just reaps the beauty of it. :) About the meeting, is there anything in particular that anyone would like to cover in the meeting. Maybe a hands on thing. Maybe a discussion on what you dose your reefs with to make them thrive. (hints for the newbie) or maybe even setting up brine cultures or something we can take home with us. Just bring what is needed to the meeting and such. If you got an idea you might want to try just speak up and lets get to know each other. Ready to have some fun, besides dunking for hair algae..

Hi I would be interested as well. I am stuck in the middle. I live in Pell City and have been interested in the central al. club but never been able to make a meeting. I do a lot of my shopping in Anniston / Oxford and would like to come to a meeting if yall set one up
thanks Terry
