EARS meeting?

hmm...if i didnt want to play golf tomorrow i would go down there after work
Well 1st i have still not made it to valley yet...maybe this afternoon. 2nd I was going the back way to trussville the other day and stopped in Argo to Gods fish net. Enjoyed chatting with Harold...he has been at this for years and had an awesome selection of fish on hand. He also said he would be thrilled to host a meeting. I know this is a bit of a trip for some folks but could always be on a list for a future get together.3rd Lets keep this alive and figure out a way to make it work. I was looking at a job the other day in the Pell City area and walked into some folks house and low and behold there is a beautiful 110 gallon sitting there with fish and coral so needless to say business was put on hold for and hour to disscuss aquariums and they said they would be interested in a club as well. Also I have another freind in the area that is interested and just starting to post on reef central but hasnt posted here yet so with me that is 5 from this area (2 couples and me-my wife could care less) plus all others posting on here so we have the makings of a great start here!

this is a pretty darn good start. If we could find a place to meet...go ahead and set a date then get at least one of the lfs or both telling folks we might could get a group.

+1 on that...ive never done a frag swap before so i dont know how it works but either way i am in..i am in Illinois right now for the weekend but may shoot down to valley if i can find it monday or tuesday....and i think pappa said he works the weekend of the 19th....so anybody want to shoot for the 12th??

They are in the process of moving and will be at least a couple of weeks before they are all put back together. I think he would like to wait till towards the end of the month to meet but said they would talk it up as well as host. i think he should start replying here so we will know for sure what he thinks....It appears to me that aqua is selling off piece by piece. that might not be the case and I really hope not because I think they were doing a great job and had come a long way over the previous owner. any way stay tuned.

im in 4 a meeting. im sure kathy would be up 4 us doing the meeting there. someone will need to talk to her or shawn. the store should be finshed this next week. we can do it some where else if yall want . im will help in any way i can yall just let me know what yall need me to do.

That sounds like a nice size group already forming! +2 to the list, My wife and brother will be coming as well.
I'm glad to hear that valley is getting a nice new place. Just curious, how are they setting up there tanks? Are they plumbing them together or just moving there existing tanks. I know that Kathy was wanting to plumb them all together several years ago.
So it sounds like the 26th is becoming the most popular time.
As far as a frag swap goes...all it consist of is several people bringing bagged up corals and trading them for cash, equipment, or other frags. No holding tank is necessary. Although it is reccomended that you bring a cooler along with you to take home all your traded stuff and all the stuff you buy from the wonderful stores that are gracious enough to be our host!

she plumbed some of them together there is 3 tanks on 1 sump 4 the fish systems and i think there is 5 systems just 4 fish. 2 of the coral systems will be plumbed together. it will be a much better setup.

:rollface: I'm glad that Kathy is getting a better setup. I remember her saying that not plumbing everything together was one of her biggest regrets when she set that store up.
Could someone local check and see if Valley can host it the 26th at whatever time is best for them?
As for events, I think that Kathy or shawn explaining the design of the new setups would be cool. (If valley can do it that day) If anybody wanted to trade frags we could do that to. (as long it is ok with our host store. I know a few stores that do not like frag swaps goin on at their stores, They think it takes away from sales. I also know of a couple that encourage it and even get in on the trading.)
Just throwin stuff out there. Lets get this thing going!

Hey everyone! Im back on board now, sorry I have been a bit absent but my schedule lately has been even more chaotic than normal.. As Rug and Snuggles said, my work, Valley Tropical Fish has moved..
Just to clarify and for anyone who wants to know, we are just two doors down to the left in Daphne Plaza, next to Changes Hair Salon ... Its within walking distance.
Its a much nicer, new updated building with .. A MUCH BETTER LANDLORD if I may say so myself!... and more coral display tanks now... Although my aquarium is no longer at the store, I moved it to my apartment when we moved out of the old store. And I have still not got the last 200gallon coral system up and running..., not to mention the 160gallon has to still be setup, and the 115cube... and the 500gallon saltwater storage unit... Gah, and we still have to get... OH GEEZE Im RANTING... anyway!
Ive been very busy helping get things together there, and its still a work in progress!
I am also excited about the interest in EARS this time!
I have not had a chance to sit down with Kathy about hosting again, but I know her, and I know she will be more than happy to provide a meeting place, as well as refreshments, snacks, and such just like always... Probably even a sale that day in honor of the meeting... and probably a little swapping of herself knowing her... haha
A frag swap would be nice to do, IF and ONLY IF we can get enough people interested in doing it, I dont want there to be only 1 or 2 people bringing a few frags... and Im not about to start chopping up my stuff for no reason...

I myself would have things like Nice Zoas, for example, Neon Orange, some really nice FIRE AND ICE, some TUBS Blue Zoas, some G.I. Joe Greens, Rosey Reds ... um, maybe a frag of acro or two, maybe a duncanopsamia head or two.... Cespitularia, some Metalic Green Trumpets, Hairy Rhodacus shrooms that I swear if someone doesnt take those shrooms, TO THE TOILET THEY ARE GOING!... um... anyway.... that kind of stuff... and I hopefully within the next couple of meetings may have some " NON-INDO " micros and Acans for swap! HEHEHE!!!!! SO EXCITED!
But thats besides the point! and those acans and Micros are from MEXICO!, DEFINATLY MEXICO!.. NOT FROM JAPAN, and if someone were to ask me if they were, I would say I have no idea, they are really from MEXICO! yep! Mexican Acans and Micros!...
hum... Now Im craving Los Mexicanos all of a sudden... yum!
So, As I said, Im sure that Kathy would be more than happy to host and provide again... as VTF is the home place for the society because it was its first meeting place...

Guest speakers would be VERY good, HOWEVER, the few that would like to charge an arm and a leg for a non-profit hobbiest based society, that asks NOTHING but for a meeting place for other hobbiest to meet and discuss and share... I do not believe that would be possible to have them speaking unless, everyone agreed they would like to hear the speaker and would be willing to pay the speaker or speakers in advance. Open to suggests again, lets hear it peeps!
Any suggestions on Activitys for the meeting besides standing around for a few hours are welcome

A Time also needs to be decided upon, normally around lunch.. that is between the hours of 12pm and 3pm for most people, unless you work 3rd shift and would normally be sleeping around that time... That time normally works out for most people on saturday, as some like to sleep in a bit.. INCLUDING MYSELF! haha.. although, I dont get that luxury lately....
There are 5 SYSTEMS for fish each being approximately 200gallons per. and there are about 500 gallons total of coral display now, 200-250gallons just being one system.. which i still have to get up and running QUICKLY! the other two coral tanks are both 125gallons each. Right now everything is temporary, including filtration and lighting... we are still working on all that, and it takes A LOT of time to get THAT MANY systems up and running, so please pardon the progress as Kathy says
We also took that OLD ROCK VAT in the back and are going to make it into a Koi Pond, which I found out today, I believe that was Kathys Idea and I think that would be cool! MUCH better than a rock vat
The two 50gallon Tubs in the back that were used to house Customers corals they have already bought but were waiting to be picked up, and that housed frags for sale is now going to be the Live Rock display tanks so people can see them better, we will either be installing MH pendents over it, or putting those pendents that were over it to better use and just using normal output flouresent bulbs for the rock.. dont know yet.. still in planning...

yes, Once everyone decides for sure on a meeting place and time, if Valley hosts it I will make up Posters and Handouts so we get more publicity for the event!

I really dont know what is going on there, but if someone could ask just to see if hosting the event would be at all possible or of interest to the owner(s) at all then that would at least let us know if its a possibility or not.

great to see you chime in Shawn... I would love a frag swap but I would be a buyer as I am still building but some of the zoas you mention sound like some things I would like to have. I am also recently interested in the acans and duncans and would love a nice new piece or 2. Hopefully unless work grabs me which it rarely does after 12 on Saturday I can go for any date. looking forward.

Just an Update, I spoke with Kathy very briefly today, as we are all still very busy about hosting it, and she made the comment that she wants the new store to be completely up and running before she does anything.

Since Kathy would rather wait till she's settled and set up (don't blame her a bit) could one of you touch base with AE? I haven't been by there in a while and I'm working 7 days (nights) this week so no way I can do it. Maybe we can do it there this month and give Kathy more time so she will be more comfortable with the meeting.
