Earthquake preparation?

Will work for fish
I know if an earthquake hits there's much more to worry about than our tanks. But I wanted to see what prepwork people have done with anchoring tanks. I read up on this and some people don't bother doing anything but others have anchored stands and tanks.

I've already read about it a stand fails it's pointless but wanted to see what consensus is from people who have been thru a quake and their experiences thanks!!!

Why?

I heard the same. My understanding is that the walls flex quite a bit during an earthquake and if something heavy like a fish tank stand is anchored to it, the flexing wall will rip the stand apart.

My understanding is that it's best to leave a tank unanchored to allow it to "œwalk" or slide around during a quake. I built my stand with a rim around the tank, so the tank and stand "œshould" walk together.

All that said, I am no expert. Hopefully someone who knows what they're talking about will weigh in! [emoji106]

I’ve heard it’s bad to anchor too. My thought was if the anchor holds then the tank is more likely to fall off the stand.

Best is to keep the tank as close to the ground as possible. Also tanks with a larger and more squareish footprint have better chances of surviving a quake than those with a more narrow and elongated footprint.
