earthquake prevention???

i thnk that tank that is around 18 inches and narrower are at biggest threat to tiping especially if i on a high stand. But if you have a standard 6 x 2 x 2 you should be ok (acrylic) I live on the 3rd floor and i have a 140g

Had a 70 gal tall\show tank for year, this tank sat on 1"x6" pine boards layed across cinder blocks....that's the one that went through both large quakes.

If straping the tank or stand to a 2x4 makes you feel better then by all means have at it. I speak from experience.

I'm just hoping that I'll be in diapers when the next one hits.

omg! that video is crazy! i put my tank between 3 walls with 2 inches clearance on the sides and 1 foot clearance in the back? i just know... my tank (260g) will most likely go through a wall if it fell on it. the tank weights so much! i can't imagine a wall holding all that weight... not even weight, it is an impact which usually puts more pressure... i wonder if that guy stopped his return pump?

During a serious earthquake:

If you manage to attach your aquarium at several points to your wall, the tank will fail at those points of attachment.

If you manage to attach the entire back wall of the tank to the wall of the house, the entire back wall of the tank will seperate from the rest of the tank.

If you manage to firmly attach the entire tank to the wall, and brace the tank members such that they would not fail, then the entire wall of the house may come down.

Basically, my strategy to deal with the issue would be to get the heck out of the way. Any sized tank can become a projectile in an earthquake. Just have the ability to replace the saltwater and put your corals and fish in plastic bins afterward...not that you would have electricity to run the aerators or powerheads.

hahaha... 5 gallon bucket for the prized corals... heavy breathing througha tube.. problem solved!

all you have to do then is get a new house...

i really hope there aren't any big earth quakes... it would leave alot of destructin in the aquarium world...
