Easiest and most cost-effective method of breeding starfish

I really want to keep harlequin shrimps but I know that you need to feed them live starfish.

I want to create a separate and dedicated tank solely for the purpose of breeding starfish.

My question is, what star fish would be most ideal in terms of ease of care and rate of reproduction?

What kind of set up would I need in order to accomplish this goal?

Any feedback and inputs welcomed. Thank you!

Can't breed them. All starfish are too fagile and the hardy CC starfish are canibilistic and you'll never be able to breed them fast enough to keep up with harlies.

Asterina starfish are the only ones you can breed.. but remember that harlequin shrimp need atleast 15 a day.. PER DAY to be substained.. that will be nearly impossible to keep up with. They're good to breed for back-up if there is a food shortage.. but not for long term success..

If you're up for it tho... starfish will regenerate legs..

You can cut the leg off a Chocolate chip starfish, then next time you feed cut the leg off a different chocolate chip starfish.. and then repeat. Several starfish legs and feedings later the first one's leg should be grown back to repeat the cycle.

Other wise feeding them straight live isn't as bad as it sounds.. the prices dog food is nowadays makes these guys seem cheap..

One 5" chocolate chip starfish last mine about 2-3 weeks before they need fed again.

How long does it take for a chocolate starfish to regenerate a leg?

Beats me, time varies I guess based on food and size. I personally never tried it or witnessed it.. just heard about it. My harlys cost me about 15 dollars a month to feed.. minus gas and toll to go get food.
