easiest way to catch

Anyone have any suggestions on ways to catch a blue tang? I think I should just make a fish trap or buy/borrow one from some body out there. Can't empty the the tank.. although he loves seaweed, and is too smart and fast to net him. Anyone able to make my life easier?

Your best bet will probably be a trap. I think Carlos(The Aquarius) has a trap that he loans out to people. He might even give you a healthy trade for the tang too.

Reef culture has some nice traps for sale. But best way, IMO, is to get a second person to help with multiple nets/acclimation boxes.

Oh awesome, I'll call him or stop in sometime soon, yea I know he would take in my beautiful tang but I'm not getting rid of him, just transferring to another tank!!
Thx for the info

Anytime a net, hand, or anything gets into the tank, he darts in unreachable crevices and won't come out till its gone:/

I have had good luck with water bottle traps for small fish, but for this size I doubt that would be effective. I have seen Carlos at the Aquarius catch fish in seconds that would have taken me several tries using an acrylic box.

Pretty much anything clear will help over a net. Egg crate might help keep him in a smaller zone. If you don't have an acrylic box maybe try a large Tupperware container that is clear. Hope this helps. I also know Carlos has a trap that might be for loan/sale. Good luck!

One way ive used is to get a freezer size zip lock bag, roll the top back so it forms a lip and loop a piece of fishing line around it. Then use a magnet from like a powerhead to hold it to the side of the tank. Spray some food into the bag and once it goes in, just pull the fishing line. Ive been very successful with this. Not feeding for a few days usually helps too

I have one too, same area as silverA3 almaschool and Guadalupe. mine doesn't work though. I tried for a week to catch a squirrel fish in it but he knew better. even after days of not eating he would look inside it and swim away
