easy to feed fish ~50g upgrade

im looking for equipment to upgrade my 5.5g to a 40br or similar sized tank (36x18 footprint, have been looking at a 58g). the tank will be in my office for a while until i move. im wondering about fish now. i need something that's not picky. im on the road about 35-40% of the time so i want some fish that take easily to dry food. my current onyx clown is a great example, i load my auto feeder for the week with pellets and flakes, and she's good to go. when im in the office i'll feed some cyclopeeze and other stuff. things im thinking of are a pearly jaw fish, a dwarf angel, flasher wrasse, starry blenny, maybe another clown, chalk bass(maybe two). any recommendations for some fish that will fit the bill?

I would stay away from super active fish or fish that produce large amounts of waste.

Depending on how much rock you have in your tank, once it's established it can support several fish. With a good algae population and pod population dwarf angels, and tangs can support themselves off of your created reef. And my tanks I load with lots and lots of rock work.

From my experience clowns are on the edge of being able to forage for themselves. But in a well established tank, I have kept tangs, blennies, angels for months between feedings.

Key factor here is "Well Established".

Agree with BigOldReef except for the tang part (I think he was just using them for illustration and not suggesting that they could fit into a 3' tank).

I don't know if jawfish will take pellets. Dwarf angels can be a bit territorial in smaller tanks. They may also nip corals if they're bored or hungry.

Other than that, I think any of the fish you've suggested would be ok with an autofeeder. Other fish I would suggest - midas blenny or tailspot blenny (if you don't do the starry), watchman goby, possum wrasse, royal gramma.


I would stock lightly, given your feeding constraints.
