please be careful of any 2nd chance offers you get on ebay.there is a lot of scams going on with them.I got one on a canon rebel I was trying to get for the wife for xmas now she will not get her camera

just make sure the offer is for real send it to spoof@ebay.com to make sure it is real and not a scam.I do not want to see anyone be takening

Here is another treason not to go with second chance offers: More often than people realize, they are bidding against shill bidders that work with the person selling the item in order to bid the price up. Sometimes, the shill goes one bid too far and ends up being the high bidder - and then comes the second chance offer. In these cases, the offer is legit, but it is higher than if the shill bidder hadn't bid the price up in the first place.

I had a 2nd chance offer-- I almost bit but realized there is no "feedback" safety net for this-- I don't know if paypal could get the funds back for you-- I bought something buy it now and paid for it paypal... the next day, ebay cancelled the auction (never found out why) and the funds were credited back to my paypal account..

ebay 2nd chance scam

ebay 2nd chance scam

Hi again guys, ebay powerseller here to add his 2 cents.

A few of my customers have reported that they have been given second chance offers on items that they didn't win. The forwarded emails said that the potential buyer should forward the money via Western Union wire transfer, and that they need to tell Western Union that they are sending the money to a relative because Western Union prohibits making payments for online auctions. THIS SHOULD SEND UP BIG RED FLAGS.

Real second chance offers, and other official ebay messages, can always be found on your MY EBAY page. To see if a message is really from ebay or an ebay member, check your MY EBAY page. I've sold a few things using second chance offers because the highest bidder backed out, and it has worked out fine plenty of times. It works like a real auction, in that you are the only one offered the item at a BUY IT NOW price. You need to check your MY EBAY page, click on the link to the new auction page, verify that it is the same item you bid on at your highest bid, and click the BUY IT NOW option. The payment procedure, communication, and feedback all work like any other auction.

The most secure way to pay for something through ebay is to use a credit card through paypal. Even if for some strange reason paypal takes the side of the seller, your credit card company can chargeback the price. This will take the money from paypal, and paypal will charge the seller. This is actually a SCAM buyers are using to steal from sellers. Its so bad that some powersellers are refusing to accept paypal payments.

I have been searching for a new plasma tv on Ebay. At least 3 times in the last 2 days Ebay has pulled about a dozen ads for these plasma tvs. The sellers were trying to sell these "tvs" for about $500-$600 dollars cheaper than any store or any lowest high bid that the real sellers were selling them for. I was even told by one of the sellers that I had to send my Payment via Western Union to ROMANIA!!! Yeah, like that'll ever happen. They also kept avoiding my direct questions.

bottom line guys... eBay is setup to protect scammers. The site has slowely morphed into a retail venue for power sellers and drop shippers (most of whom are shady). No offense benji... I am aware that there are a lot of GOOD people who sell on eBay also.

Just about everything the company does is built around the idea of shielding the huge scammers and keeping them turning over transactions. The feedback system is a farce, as is the dispute resolution, live help, paypal, etc.

A guy with 10,000 feedbacks a month can scam 300 people a week and still end up wih a 99.8% feedback rating. Why? Becuase poor joe blow that got ripped off with his lowely 9 feedbacks will go from 100% to 90% when the big scammer posts a negative in retaliation. Worse yet, eBay will do just about ANYTHING to keep you from posting a negative about a seller including offering to mutually remove the comments!

The only reason they are trying to stop THIS scam is because they don't make anything off of the transaction! Freed they pull the ads because the sellers are using them as bait and switch for phone or web orders.

A word of advice... stick to small time sellers that offer used stuff from their garage. If the retail price is cheaper than wholesale, you are getting scammed somehow. If the plasma costs $2500 at best buy, then that is pretty damn close to the best price you are going to get on a legitimate new TV.

If you are bored one day, go research the mountain of lawsuits that are filed against eBay and paypal for knowingly doing nothing to stop dishonest sellers from fleecing people.

Hell a whole manufacturing and distribution model has grown up around eBay. There are container loads of knock off goods manufactured just to be sold on the bay. 99.999% of it is pure junk.

That said... I buy stuff all the time from there :)

yup and the scum seems to be multiplying by the day. Sadly it is allowing the legitimate businesses to drop their levels of support and honesty as well. Remember they only have to be a bit better than the pond scum to be the best game in town :)

Has anyone done the infamous search on Haunted items on Ebay I always love reading these. It’s amazing that people are even bidding on these items.

Ebay has become way too commercialized for me. Now a day, you can't get the good bargain prices you use to be able to get, and if they are labeled as a bargain you risk the chance of being scammed. So many people have ruined such a nice commodity.

That's another good point. If you're looking for a new item, don't look for it on ebay. The powerseller boards are filled with people who buy things at wally-world and sell them on ebay for double the price, just because someone out there will pay it. I've fallen for this a few times. I just bought a PNY 1gb micro SD card from a fellow powerseller for $27. It was shipped from Newegg.com who had it on sale for $10. That guy used newegg as his dropshipper.

Do you expect them to sell at a loss?? ;)

Almost all retail is marked up at least 100%

I've had very good experiences on ebay-- I've only bought/sold about 30-40 things over 4 years or so and have had little problems--

2 people shipped me the wrong items-- both were resolved to my satisfaction.

I don't buy alot of stuff but one thing you can save alot on is Pet Meds-- We have 2 cats and give them Frontline Plus-- I get mine from a guy in Austrailia for less then 1/2 the cost you can buy it locally...

I also bought a glass hole saw from hong kong for $6.20 shipped to my door.

I've been on ebay for many years and I've noticed the change from "garage salers" to a more commercial atmosphere. It's hard to find a good deal these days, most items can be had for the same price or cheaper at online retailers.

and be had without the risk of getting ripped off...

It IS a shame that the few honest sellers have to compete in a system that is wholly biased towards the scammers and dishonest people of the world. eBay will not be around much longer anyway. People are strating to get wise to the nonsense. Look for google to start an auction service very soon... with much more protection buil tin for buyers (to begin with.. but it will soon go the route of eBay as well).

What is the old saying... [SIC]there is always one more pyramid robber than there are booby-traps on a pyramid? The scum of the earth will ALWAYS ruin whatever the best of mankind can come up with :)

one word, okay two: craigs list.
sold stuff on ebay and got paypaled and shipped it out...
then buyer canceled funds. paypal "looked into it" - they blow
anything at a decent price is bought by a powerseller and resold at a crappy price. check craigs, then check newegg, then check ebay - in that order.

newegg and provantage are both reliable.... but man do they kill me. They both sell lower than my wholesale cost :) I sometimes by from them instead of distribution. It is another sad thing to think that the population is now DEMANDING to pay wholesale price at retail. I am like ebusiness but people are going to be very surprised with retail withers and dies and the only thing left is the scammers because they are left un checked on the web and will eviscerate the honest businesses with honest prices. :(

I use to be on eBay but got out it a while ago after a few buyer ripped me off. One got a $400 item from me claimed it was broken, paypal was on my side the first time, then the charge back came and they changed there views. I ended up with a negative balance in my paypal account and no item, the guy got his money and the item from me. I left the account negative and left my ebay fees uppaid and left. This was not just a one time thing, it happened a few times before I learned my lesson the left, EBay nor paypal back me as a seller even tho I followed the rules 100%
The place is all commercial now and no long a needed place
