eBay and Cameras.

I want a new camera (don't we all). Currently have a Canon PowerShot Pro1 8.0MP. Great starter camera but I want something a little more serious. I'm looking into Rebel XTi's.

I feel I can justify buying a camera if I get a good deal.

---I'm always weary about eBay. Has any body got any advice/comments?

Things like this look so tempting..... (even though it has a few days of bidding left)

XTi Bid

Another auction..

Canon warranties are non-transferrable. If you're not buying it brand new from an authorized reseller; you have no warranty. You might not ever need it but you should know that going in. The fact that it ships with the "warranty card" doesn't help you. You need proof of purchase form an authorized vendor.

It's a great camera but I don't think that I'd buy one on ebay.

Cheers

Yeah the warranty is a little troubling, however rarely do I actually have to get things fixed. I may have to start bidding.

I know the info must be out there, but any first hand real drawbacks to the XTi for its price range?

I would not buy a camera on ebay. The good deals are usually from unauthorized resellers so you get no warranty. I'd rather spend 10-12% more at a big chain like buydig, ritz or B&H so you get the warranty and have some bit of customer service in case anything goes awry. The mere thought of buying a used camera off ebay frightens me.

Cameta Camera on ebay is an authorized dealer and the warranty IS valid if you purchase from them. Their prices are about 5-25% cheaper than BH. I have purchased thousands and thousands of dollars in camera equipment from them without a single problem. They have over 170,000 positive feedback.
