Economy & Reef

Basic economics, GPD=C+I+G+(Exports-Imports). Buying imported stuff doesn't do any favors (I do understand how contradictory that sounds on a fish board, where nearly everything is imported, but we're talking $50 fish, not $30,000 cars).

If you think those Toyota or Nissan plants are anything more then publicity, you might want to check out this site:

http://www.levelfieldinstitute.org/index.html

AquaKnight that is an interesting site and the first time I've seen it. Well the Toyota Prius is at 1 million units sold worldwide with 592,000 in North America since 1997. Unfortunately that website is too late to convince everyone not to buy a Toyota.

So what are you doing with your Stimulus check?

lol i am actually trying to sell the chevelle and the nova, but with $4 gas they aren't goin anywhere fast lol. I'm not givin em away either lol. I haven't had a car payment in so long i can't even remember the last time,

what are you looking for the chevelle? you said '70 right?

Asking $12,500 for the Chevelle. It's a 1970 with 93,000 original miles. 350/300hp 350turbo trans. All numbers matching . Interior is like new original. Still have the original wheels that go with it that have new tires, beauty rings, and caps. I am only the second owner of the car and i have owned it about 12 years.

The black marks in the driveway in the first picture are the Nova's fault lol. Never even tried to spin the tires on the Chevelle. I'm sure it will, but never felt the need. The Nova on the other hand lol has a bad attitude when it gets out of it's cage. It likes to do wheelies in the driveway and act a fool on our street every 6 months or so ;)

Yea we just bought a new car and i definitely agree that a new car payment is not worth a little savings but the car that we had was pretty much dead and getting 13mpg with a whole bunch of stuff not even working on it so we got a Prius. The chevy sports car is the electric Volt. I think it is supposed to get over 100miles to a charge not sure though. As far as the economy i am trying to set up a tank and after starting it is like when is there an end to buying just equipment forget all the livestock.

Our car is newer and the gas is 18 mpg. We bought it last year. Sure gas stinks but we just cut out alot of our longer distance travel. I disagree about buying imports. Most of our american cars are littered with problems and just plain suck. I'll buy an american car when they can actually perform in par with imports. Yes several imports suck too but that is why I have a Honda.

What makes it tougher for us is my wife doesn't work and we home school our kids(don't even get me started on the crappy school system). But my work is about as secure as it is going to get. If I got laid off, it would take a LONG time to hire a replacement for what I do and the ones who I work with don't even know half of what I do.

As for buying fish stuff, I don't mind because I enjoy growing it out and occasionally sell corals. Electric bill from my tanks is about 80 a month additional. Fortunately, I have only one car payment and I bought my house right before the boom so I got a good deal plus a killer 4.8% fixed interest rate.

Haven't checked any of the recent quality reports, have you?

I always check consumer reports and my work has a direct tie in with all recalls and service bulletins. There might be some american cars that are fine now but for many they aren't. Why anyone would buy a Ford is beyond me with their great recall record. Several of their vehicles had great reports and then a couple years later, all the big recalls. Yea, they have my trust.

dugg.....if it were a 396 in that beast, I'd be sold......or if it were a '67.....I'd be on my way right now!

chevelles are my favorite!

cause fords are cheap cheap! the wal-mart of car manufacturers!

I drive a mazda, myself.....and my last car was a honda

but the boss man only buys American steel and vehicles for the business! well....sometimes we get canadian steel, and once in a while we have to order odd sized materials from overseas. Our trucks are all dodges, internationals, and fords

AquaKnight...I remember a thread or post last year I think about how many of the reef people drive Mustangs. There are quite a few on this board.

If it was a 396 or a 67 it would be a whole lot more than $12,500 lol
