EcoRay LED

Anyone have any experiences with the EcoRay 60d fixtures? There is a local reefer who has 2 new ones for $100 each

Based on what I saw at a sellers website, it looks like a very over priced Chinese black box with lots of talk about "high PAR". But they use 3w leds and 130 watts, same as all the NEW black box leds that you can buy for $100 to $150 with a warranty.

Are his REALLY new? Why is he selling them? You can get better black box leds from Viparspectra for about the same money (built-in timers and digital dimmers) or even better (if you like sunrise/sunset control) from Eophotica for about double the money. Or just get MarsAqua new for the same money. I've heard of all the brands I named, and they all sell at reasonable prices new and offer warranties. I've never heard anybody talk about Ecoray before and they sell with high prices and exaggerated marketing claims.

I'd offer him $75 each if they are really new. $50 if they have been used. Otherwise buy your own new.

Good luck.

60 watts for $100??? I wouldn't touch that for more than $50.

You can get brand new 165 watt fixture (55 3w leds) pushing 120 watts (2.2 watts per led) for $100.

Have you seen this post? It talks about brands, features and some basic prices.

Don't buy a fixture because I recommend it (or anybody else for that matter). Find the one that has the features you want (or don't want) and fits your budget. IMHO, the MarsAqua can be bought for under $100 brand new and would be considerably better than the Ecoray. I assume it has a warranty (?) and I haven't heard anybody complain about their customer service (I assume they have some?).

Even better, OceanRevive and Reef Breeders offer a fixture with built in on/off timers and digital dimmers (not sunrise/sunset control... just dimmers) for under $200. And they both have sponsor forums hear that make them easy to talk to. I have both and I can say they are at least well made.
