EcoTech Marine replacement parts

A power hit took out my XR15 power adapter. I managed to track down a replacement on the EcoTech site, and of course they are insane about the prices. What should be a $15-20 part at the high end they want $75 for.

This is a simple power adapter model pa1075-240t1a312.

It takes 110v or 220v input (switching) and puts out 24v at 3.12A with 75w max draw. Hundreds of these things out there for $6 to $10 dollars, but of course I cannot be sure of the quality of the output of them.

Does anyone have a source for a reasonable priced unit that they have tested to work with the XR15G3 Pro lights?

Power is power. If you know the exact specifications of the power supply needed and can find a cheaper alternative that matches them, then give it a try... The $75 probably includes the whole driver I would imagine? You could also try the WTB forum, there's gotta be someone around here with an Ecotech power supply sitting around. It also couldn't hurt to pick up the phone and call Ecotech about it and see if they can offer something.

The driver is built-in to the fixture of a Radion. The $75 is because it's ecotech so they have to make people think their parts are premium when in reality the power supply is the same as the one the OP found for 15 bucks.

I went through this same issue a few weeks ago. One of my kids was helping out with the tank, and the next thing I know the GFI trips. Still not sure how the water got into the power supply. I searched everywhere for a replacement without luck. I was however able to find an import report that showed how many adapters Ecotech had imported from China. It listed the manufactuer's name, so I tried to look up their website directly, but it was in Chinese. Ultimately, I gave up and just ordered one from Ecotech. I figured it wasn't worth ruining the light if something happened with a cheap power supply.

Or you can think of it this way: they are spreading the cost over the parts so that when one of the more likely parts fail (ie a puck), people pay a little less for them.

Could be but isn't the cost of a replacement xr30 puck like $150? At 28 LEDs on a puck that is quite high.

It's an $800 fixture, that's quite reasonable. They can't sell the parts at less than what it would cost to buy an assembled light lol

Just to update. The part I ended up buying did not work. The specs showed as correct, but the light fixture would just flash an error code and not power up at all.

Since the part is a cheap Chinese knock off I am going to bet it was mislabeled as to draw since it also ran another LED fixture as long as I kept the LEDs at under a set total power draw. As soon as I increased the draw on beyond a set point they all went out on that fixture as well.

In the end I bit the bullet and ordered the part from EcoTech before I started to have issues with the corals on the tank. Now that I have the comfort of time I am going to source a working replacement from somewhere else until I find a good replacement just to have on hand.
