EcoTech Marine VorTech MP40 Release Information

ReefWaters: Good points and my sentiments as well. All of my gaskets have gouging and only one pump is working with no rattling...I have done a lot of messing around trying to get the wet side gasket to stay flat and my assumption is that it is just being drawn in by heat. I would guess though that with no gasket the magnet would chew into the acrylic on my tank.

I am not very happy with the gasket issue and am a bit disappointed in my experience with the Vortechs so far. I felt one last night that was extremely hot as well. I figured waiting would get a better product and I wonder why I never saw any comments from beta testers about this issue. Maybe those bright orange gaskets were better suited?

Hopefully this issue will be resolved soon and my wear bearings don't turn to dust! :D
 
Correct. But I didn't have an overheating issue nor a super hot motor.

You guys keep say there is a magnet on the impellar side. I do not believe that is a magnet, unless they've been changed since my beta-version. As far as I know, the magnet is on the motor side, and the inner portion has a piece of metal.

The guys at EcoTech should have the answers to these questions.
 
While I have had other issues I have not seen any issues with the wet side gasket. I have the orange one also; early production run. It has not gotten soft; just stayed rubbery. While my Vortechs dry side have felt quite warm at times they have never overheated. The driver senses that and shuts them down before they overheat.
 
The wet gasket is definitely rubbing. I have two Vortechs and one runs great but I've had the other one fall off twice now. After it fell off the second time I can see the gasket is gouged and also is now brown, expanded by about 5mm and very soft.
 
i have two vortech pumps which worked fine for 1 week,
Last night the two pumps started to spin. how do i stop it from spinning. i beleive i have the latest version.

$345 friggin bucks each. And yes, this is still early testing on the users with the biggest nads. :lol:

You're in Poulsbo? Have we met?
 
Okay, I ran the one pump with the dry gasket on the inside of the tank instead of the soft wet gasket for a full day. The pump ran fine and never over heated but I was running it at the lowest power setting. When I tried to ramp it up, it wouldn't. It just kept moving water at the same speed. When I removed the gasket and tried it again, it ramped all the way up right away.

My tank is very scratched already so I'm going to run the pumps without any gaskets for a while. But I hope this gasket eating and spinning problems is solved before I get my new tank set up.

I have had one of these for six months. I would not call that rearly testing.

If the inside magnet is touching the gasket you have a worn or broken bearing. I would not run it like that. You need to have it repaired. If it were to start touching the glass/acrylic this would be a problem.

I wish it were that simple. I have had the pumps for about a month. Last week, I came home to a stopped pump. I opened it up to find a broken wet frame. I checked the other one and it was also broken, but not as badly. Eco Tech sent out two replacements immediately and those are what are on the pumps now. The entire wet frame, bearing, and drive shaft are new on both pumps and they rubbed the wet gaskets immediately either causing the pumps to overheat or not ramp up, depending on which gasket was used.

I believe the gaskets softened up over the month, and shut down the pump by touching the magnet. This also broke the wet frame from the excessive vibration and heat. With the new parts installed, the problem did not stop. I removed the gaskets, and now I have no more problem.

Have you had any problems to speak of?

Do you have the orange gasket or the black?

All mine are touching on the wet side right out of the box. One is just slightly so it does not seem to be a problem. Are you referring to that or the dry side?
 
Only the wet frame should touch the gasket. If anything else does you need to repair your pump. If the wet side magnet or the screw is touching the wet gasket the performance of the pump will be negatively affected. The rubbing of the magnet or screw will cause friction; there by reducing rotational speed and increasing power consuption.
 
I think that goes without saying, and this is the problem that some of us are experiencing. There's no way to keep the wet side from contacting the gasket on any of my PHs. That is indeed causing higher friction, heat, and slower performance.

I don't really know how to repair my pumps, and I wouldn't expect to have to repair all 4 of them. That's kind of a high failure rate, so I am hoping that I can get some assistance from Eco-Tech and maybe there is a way to adjust these other than what I have already tried.
