EcoTech Marine VorTech MP40 Release Information

i put my new gaskets on last night and as of 24hours i have had no problems with spinning our vibration. as far as im concerned my problems have be taken care of. and all the guys at eco tech have been more than helpful to everyone on these problems. most companies would tell you to send in the pump at your cost and wait 3-4 weeks to get it back. if eco tech is this good with customer service they must believe greatly in there product.

But on a much brighter side, the one pump that was giving me so many red LED error messages seems to have calmed down and settled into its "sweet spot." I haven't seen any red lights in a full day. That's progress for me! :D As always, Ill keep everyone updated.
 
Things are going better here too. I still have some rattling from 2 pumps but it does seem to be diminishing which is good news! :D That "sweet spot" is hard for me to find, and that leans towards user idiocy rather than product malfunction. :lol:

I am not going to touch them for about a day and then check them out thoroughly. I have spent most of today switching out my two sumps for larger ones and I really feel confident that while I have the return system down, the display is getting more than enough flow from the Vortechs. I have already seen improved coral and fish behavior so I am very happy about that!
 
Okay, so the display tank is 1000g by itself with returns from the Hammerhead and the 4 VorTechs? Thats all of your flow? Nothing behind the rocks? No closed loops? Just trying to get a grasp on your system. I am hoping to get away with just the main return and VorTechs for my next system as well.
 
Exactly. 12x flow in the display plus about 4200g/hr after head loss from the Hammerhead. I figure I may add 2 more Vortechs to the back panel when the reef grows in.
 
Great! Exactly what I wanted to hear.

What I'm getting at, is that its great that you can use so few pumps and get the results you want.

Before I installed the VorTechs, I was running 6 powerheads in my 50 cube and needed more flow. There was just no room, not to mention the pain of changing impellers, heat transfer, electrical transfer, etc, etc, etc.

I dont think you can beat these pumps for circulation in an SPS tank.

Yeah well we are probably his most vocal "problem" clients! He has shown the same kind of superior service as we get from Neptune and in a niche market like this, that is really important.

I don't believe in high flow through the sumps. I like to have just enough to supply the skimmer, fuge, sensors, controllers, etc. Any more and it is a waste of electrical energy while adding needless heat to the system. Remember my display is 1000g with three 1000W MH lamps and I have no chiller. That is due in part to the lack of closed loops or internal powerheads.

I applaud EcoTech for its candid release of product information and open door policy. :thumbsup:
 
Just an FYI: I slightly loosened the shafts on my Vortechs and they are humming along now with barely any vibration noise. I am stoked!!! :celeb2:
 
My two seem to have settled in with the original soft gaskets. The one on the right ran perfect from day dot but the one on the left fell off a few times, the propeller section span a bit and the propeller shaft still rattles a bit. The one of the right spins perfect and while the one on the left isn't falling off or spinning now I can see the propeller shaking a bit. However, both are pretty silent so I'm happy for now. :)

I have been lurking in this thread for some time now waiting to so see how these pumps work out before I make my purchase. I just want to thank you and the other regular posters for sharing your experiences. These seem to be great pumps and because of your input they will be even better.

Alright well 24 hours of the new gasket and sticker and it seems that this thing is staying put. I couldnt be happier now that this thing is not moving. I would call this problem solved, now I truly have an awesome pump. Thanks Ecotech. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I have an acrylic 135g tank and was really excited to read about the VorTech's.Consisidering the problems many have experienced
with spinning and gasket meltings I am really leery to purchase them at the present time, especially to be used on acrylic. I know you have done alot of R&D and you have supported your product to the utmost. I understand there was alot of desire to get the product on the shelves,but maybe a little more beta testing was in order.
I hope you get the bugs out soon! I am still eager to outfit my tank with them.
 
I agree acrylic is just fine. Two pumps on my 150.

I got a new gasket and have been running it a week. I had the old orange ones and didn't have a problem but Tim included one for me when he returned my pump. It has not caused any problems. I also got one of the new ceramic drive shafts mentioned earlier and they sound pretty good - quiet. The only thing I hear is the dry side hum when I rev it up.
