I know these are not great but I just don't have the patience to get better pics right now. :D

The flow from these pumps is astounding.

Have to agree. I saw the monster tank today and those pumps push water over half way across the tank with some serious flow! BTW, very nice tank and system you have there!

Thanks Sherman. Your tank is cool too. I love to see what others do especially people that build their own equipment. Your sump is CLASSIC!

Where is the best place to buy these pumps price wise? Every vendor seems to be charging the "maximum" price - 345. Anyone selling them for less?

Would just like to let anyone out there thinking of purchasing a vortech, go for it. I had some gasket problems with the pump. The customer service at ecotech was fantastic. They called me back on numerous occasions to troubleshoot my problem . I was concerned about the lack of flow the corals would get with the pump down. Tim got me replcement parts the next day. The pump is now hummin with the new gasket in place. These guys have a great product and back it up with great service. Thanks again Ecotech. Mike

I have to echo that sentiment. EcoTech service is excellent. I also get to report that my rattling problems seem to have resolved themselves. I now just have what I consider a normal motor hum. The replacement gaskets seem to have done the trick. :D I wonder if there isn't some ingenious way to align these pumps without so much hassle...

Great news Jonathon. Glad to hear it. If you do figure out that ingenious alignment method please clue the rest of us in.

If I should order now won't I get earlier versions of the pumps that were shipped, and have the hassle of ordering and swapping retrofit parts, or have the older models been recalled?

Some if not most people did not even have gasket problems, I guess its just us with slippery glass ;)

So if you were to buy one I would ask the retailer what type of gasket it comes with, if its the old one, order it and then send Tim an email and I'm sure he'll send you out the new gasket.

It does seem that it has been a small percentage of people that have had any kind of problem wih the gaskets. They have sold hundreds of these and only a few people are posting about problems. That old gasket is really interesting though. It is VERY sticky and I can see why EcoTech used it. I had one on my desk and it dried out, and I had to physically peel it off my desk!

Have no fear about ordering pump from any vendors. If you experience a problem just write us and we'll upgrade you. Pumps are starting to ship with the new gasket.

Best,

Tim

Since were at it no one has mentioned just how long the power cord is, and how long the cord is from the driver box to the pump.

It would be real nice if your website had a spec page a little more detailed than the current one that would include these specs Tim

Since I don't have the final version, I can't say for sure. I know the power cord to the dc converter (assuming that is what the black thing is) is a standard 6' cord. It looks like a typical computer cord to me, but that doesn't mean it is a fact. The cord going from the black thing to the metal driver is about 30" long, and from the driver to the VorTech pump seems to be about 8' long.

Yep, go for it. Order them. EcoTech will stand behind their product and will help you with any problems. You'll love the pumps.

One more thought.
If I am reading right, EcoTech is also experimenting with ceramic shafts. Will all new retrofit parts automatically be sent out to registered users.
I am sorry to so be skeptical but I have had 2 different (lemon) autos in my lifetime of driving. This was long before "lemon laws"existed. Both companies also backed up their product with great service, but the joy of ownership was
diminished greatly by the need to repeatedly have the vehicles
in the shop for repairs!
I also am very unhappy with many products that don't live up to the manufacturers claims or become obsolete soon after purchase. Too many throw away products on the market!

The ceramic shafts are still in testing and are simply too expensive to provide to existing customers for free. The purchase price for these when they are available will probably be $10.

The good news is these shafts will last a very long time; probably years under typical use.

Well..... I spoke too soon.

Well..... I spoke too soon.

Two days ago I was looking at my pumps and thinking about how great they have been behaving. No kidding, at that exact moment, one of my pumps gave me an error message. Solid red with a flashing green. :(

Usually just unplugging the power from the control box and plugging it back in makes it crank back up. If that doesn't work, then realigning it does.

It will run for a few hours and then give the error lights again. Its been doing this now for 2 days. The other pump never does this.

Any ideas??????

So you know, I am still running these pumps as low (slow) as they will go. Could this have something to do with it? Could the shafts have anything to do with it?
