Ecoxotic Retrofit

I'm not sure you can still buy the ecoxotic retro kit? They sell panorama pro modules, which work well; however, are very sensitive to heat... I as well as many others have had issues with the LED's burning out within the first year. I have a small fan blowing across them now and haven't had an issue since.

t5ho is typically a good bet, but if you're thinking of LED check out reefbreaders or something like that... they are priced well and have a lot of power..

that said, you don't indicate what you're wanting to keep. That makes a HUGE difference as far as what lighting is required.

My friend is selling me the ecoxotic retro kit for 150 and I'm looking to keep all soft corals nothing that's to high maintenance for awhile considering I'm new to the hobby.

does his happen to be dimmable? They sold that kit both ways.

my main concern with it on a 40b would be coverage. I highly doubt it'll cover 36" length of the tank. you could pair it with a couple par 38 bulbs if you wanted to though...?

there is nothing wrong with that light, it's just outdated at this point... and if it's not dimmable then you'll want to suspend it higher over the tank.

I don't think it's dimmable so its not really worth getting? I could just put 30$ more in and get the reefbreeders brand.

I would spend a bit extra and get a reef breeders fixture. This way if you decide you want to try out some more light demanding corals you don't have to purchase a whole new light. People usually say they just want to do soft corals until those start growing well then they gotta get something else :)
