Thanks HomeSlizzice - corals are growing well and coloring up nicely...:p

LANDSCAPING – Part I

LANDSCAPING "“ Part I

Now that the "˜under water' section is taken care of, I will start to work on the landscaping for the "˜above water' section over the weekend.

This is a couple of initial sketches I did during my planning stage"¦. Sorry for the bad drawing but I'm not an artist but just using it to try to envision what I have in my mind. :D

and after a couple of sketches, this is my fav by far"¦.

More updates on this next week"¦.

:p

i like the last sketch bro. if you want, you can drill some holes inside the rock then put a small power head inside the overflow and you'll have a fountain, jmo :D

Hahahha - you think like me !!

I wanted to but decided not too as it's too much work. The initial idea was to do a waterfall island but drop the idea eventually.....

nice drawings... I'm curious how you'll deal with saltcreep, of if you think it will be an issue at all.

ah......not really too much work, only a couple of water tubes and some splits will do the job just fine.......:D

Hehehhe - should get you over here to help me lol

Are those Bonzi Tree sketches or Mangroves on rock?

Salt creep only a little as my water level is about 1.5" below

WATER PARAMETER UDPATES…..

WATER PARAMETER UDPATES"¦..

And did my weekly 10% WC and check my water params as below:

"¢ Temperature "“ 26.4 degree C (light off)
"¢ Salinity Gravity "“ 34ppt (drop from last week 35ppt)
"¢ pH "“ 8.08 (light off)
"¢ NO3 "“ 0.00 (Salifert Test kit "“ same as last week)
"¢ PO4 "“ 0.03 (D&D Test kit "“ same as last week)
"¢ dKH "“ 8.0 (API test kit "“ up from last week 7.0)
"¢ dKH "“ 8.5 (Elos test kit "“ up from last week 7.0)
"¢ Ca "“ 430 (Salifert test kit "“ up from last week 420)
"¢ Ca "“ 0.000 (Elos test kit "“ ran out of testkit)
"¢ Ca "“ 440 (API test kit "“ down from last week 460)
"¢ Mg "“ 1230 (Salifert test kit "“ down from last week 1320)
"¢ Mg "“ 1250 (Elos test kit "“ down from last week 1350)
"¢ Potassium "“400 "“ 410 range (Kz Test kit "“ same as last week)

My Po4 is still not coming down. I'm going to reduce my Start2 dosing slightly to try to bring this down further.

Meanwhile, I find it odd that my Mg level has drop so much in a week's time?? My other params seem to be doing fine. I got a couple of red algae growing on my rocks, including Carolline algae and I know those red algae used Ca and Mg but the question is "œDo you guys think the Carolline algae absorb the Mg??"

As for API Ca testkit, here's my conclusion (after using it for 3 weeks):
"¢ The test tube they provided is too narrow and making it difficult to mix the solutions (even if you cap it and shake the tube)
"¢ If you don't mix the solution properly, you get some outrageous results as the colors refuse to change from Pink to Blue
"¢ However, this week I decided to use my Elos test tube and the results are a lot close to my Salifert.

Will continue to use a larger test tube to test in this few coming weeks and see how the result stands out.

Meanwhile still haven't order my Elos testkit yet as I wanna see if there are other brands out there that's equally reliable (and cheaper) to be used as an second opinion for my Ca.

Wow, those sketches look awesome, and a water fall would be Bad@$$!

Yeah I know....a waterfall above the reef - now that would be something to ponder about for the future :D

rapid MG uptake is possible, id assume that the rapid red aglae growth is likely what is using the MG, however you can dose epsom salts to bring your MG back up, i think randy holmes had a recipe to boost as the "third" part of the two part system in reefkeeping mag.

here you go

Thanks Jager - thank for the link - I did read it a while back !!

I do have Kz Magnesium Complex on hand and will try to dose to bring it up slowly. Ideally I would like my Mg level to be around 1300-1350 level so not too bad.

Come on Ed, you know that you want to do it!! :p

You guys are the devil giving me more ideas

I did ponder this for a long time and a couple of issues I face:

1. Weight of the rocks as I would need some solid rocks for the waterfall
2. Add weight for water/ pump - my overflow can only hold so much :eek1:

Oh well....alternatively I will need to pour water down daily if I want to see a waterfall :D

What do you mean you are not an "artist?"

I think you are man...your aquascaping and whole tank design is art. Anyway those sketches are awesome! I haven't seen anyone do anything with the above water aspect. Reminds me of those turtle habitat tanks but on a whole new level.

I bet if you plumbed a waterfall coralline would grow on the rocks the water touched...it would be interesting.
