(Edit) First post: 55 gal to 32 Bio Cube Too drastic?

FINALLYšŸ„³ after 12 days of Nitrites /nitrates off the charts. Last 2 weeks nitrates were at 3.9. Was starting to think fluorescent RED was a new color I was missing a 2nd color card for LOL Itā€™s down and finally getting that to 0. Iā€™ll be taking a sample to get a digital test done when I pick up my new RODI from the coral shop

10/8/23 update
Some things happened these past to weeks & affecting the tank progress(all good).

First, I won $24,000 at the casino šŸŽ°šŸ˜±šŸ•ŗšŸ‘!!!! & went shopping at my Reef store LOL

Bought the full A3 APEX, auto feeder, extra parts & will get a TRIDENT ordered next when I finally get corals going. šŸ‘

Today in the tank
ā€¢got the INTANK chambers in
ā€¢small water change
ā€¢remove the eggcrate under the sand
ā€¢installed Protein skimmer
ā€¢install heater & INKBIRD heater controller
( just now turned the heater on since the cold is starting to come in)

While I was in there I did a scape change also because I wanted to open it up more. Flipped the top to scale back to the wall. Hoping to get some green star P up on that wall. Now it opens up the center and more tiers for coral.

Letting this clear back up while on vacation next weekend at ATLANTIS and by the time I get back my APEX should be in for pick up. šŸ‘ canā€™t wait to set up a board and get the wires organized. I think I am picking up a black bathroom mirror less vanity to mount on the side of the stand for the control board. Then Iā€™ll have the space in the stand for ATO, supplies etc.

Love it. Looking great and canā€™t wait to follow the progress.
Thanks. I could have moved the clowns a couple weeks ago, but didnā€™t want to risk stressing them out too much. Canā€™t wait to start adding corals, but I can enjoy the FOWLR cube for a while as it continues to establish itself. Iā€™m ready to embrace the ugly stages! So far all has been good. No sign if anything even though I have been ghost feeding the tank and last week added a large batch of ECOPODS! Been keeping the lights mostly off except maybe an hour at night

Tomorrow starts just mostly BLUES, and spits of white for short periods. I also purchased some extra ACTINIC REEFBARS from 21LED. Their Sunsetter controller has preset schedules. ReefBars

They are VERY affordable !!!!!!!

Iā€™ll be curious to find out your opinion of the ReefBars. I bought a cheap moonlight light strip off him on eBay and was a bit underwhelmed with the output. But, like I said, I bought the cheapest one he offered. He definitely has excellent customer service.

I picked up three of the smaller 10ā€ strips. Since I have smaller tanks. Two just blue ACINTIC and one thatā€™s is both Blue/White. I was going to add a one to my 32 for added BLUE but wasnā€™t sure which yet until I got them. The other Iā€™m adding to my smaller 12g Nano.
I have one of the blue strips just sitting across the front of the nano right now (along with the stock lights. So far I like them. Iā€™m planning to pick up a PAR meter and run some before after readings.

I wasnā€™t sure what I needed or wanted, so I also grabbed two controllers and two Sunsetter controllers. All I could get the basic controller to do was flash so I am probably doing something wrong. I tossed it aside for now and plugged in a sunsetter controller. Iā€™m still figuring it out, but I like how it comes plug/play and you can just select 1-2-3-4 preprogrammed and go. The weather features are pretty cool affect on it where you can create a natural looking cloudy day or a storm. I also grabbed a couple of splitters, the bars came with an in wire and an out connecting wire to stack a strip.

I havenā€™t played with any on the 32 cube yet. Right now as a FOWLR the stock LED lights appear to be just fine. Iā€™ll see once I get my PAR meter how well I can get them to work.

21LED pros so far out of the box
- the clean simple look
- they donā€™t get hot but I am also at low 40%
- like you can adjust the intensity
- the cost is affordable for LEDs
- the Sunsetter controller so far is a PLUS
ā€”pre-programmed settings

CONS (ONLY because I barely read anything yet)
- canā€™t figure out the basic controller YET
- probably overbought more than I actually need

His sight is sort of like an Ala carte light supplier over an actual aquarium place. I did send an email with what I plan to do and suggestions of what wires I needed. Never heard anything back for a couple weeks. I wasnā€™t even sure if he was still in business but I saw a couple recent reviews so just dropped the order in. The cost for me wasnā€™t an issue. At worse I have a lot of spare parts now. LOL

IF these end up giving me good PAR readings by themselves, I might even consider upgrading the full BIOCUBE stock led with a few strips of these as an option down the road. The 10ā€ strips work well for the tank. Two of my small nems seem to puff up more since Iā€™ve had them. Here is a pic with and without the lens filter under the ACINTIC led.

Nice, do you need to purchase both the dimmer AND sunsetter or can you go with just the sunsetter? When I upgrade, Iā€™d be willing to give these a try for added actinic.

That was a question I asked and never heard back, so I just got both. Answer is NO you can run it with Just the Sunsetter. There is a way to adjust the % intensity in the Sunsetter 1-2-3-4ā€”>100%. That is Nice, rather that just 20,50,75,100.

Iā€™m using just the Sunsetter alone right now and will keep the dimmers as back ups or for an extra random light somewhere. I might even try these as grow lights on my cactus to see what happens.

Yeah, I asked him the same a long while back and didnā€™t get a response. I donā€™t know why, but I get the impression heā€™s a one man operation.

Update: the turbo is alive šŸ‘šŸ‘

Found my big hermit latched onto my big turbo snail this morning in the small nano. It went running as soon as it saw my tweezers drop in. The turbo is closed up tight but no smell at all so šŸ¤ž

I moved the turbo up on the rock in the front and will keep an eye on it for any movement. This hermit went after it when I first got them also, but I got a new shell for him and he has left the turbo alone until today. This is my largest turbo and has been doing bulk of the cleaning on my glass and around the wave maker. Only reason why I didnā€™t more it with the fish to the larger 32 was I felt that one was still too clean and it would starve.

Hey guys, some progress on the new 32 cube.
FIRST, BRS pulled my $300 order live on Black Friday and I got refunded in rewards points. šŸ„³šŸ¤˜
Woohoo!

32 Biocube is doing fine. Lights are only on blues all day with 4hrs of 50% whites.. brown town diatoms are come and go but not bad. Dropped a small starter CUC to help out. 6 hermits, 3 nasarious snails. The two turbos are still hanging in the smaller dirtier tank with my large hermit so they donā€™t starve.

Today I picked up a nice piece of bright yellow GSP & a small 5ā€ Gray Banded Serpent Star. I want a red or orange one down the road at some point to add color. It will be acclimating for a couple hours and go into the tank as the sunset starts on the lights.

Iā€™m traveling 1st week in Dec and then my new APEX is being set up with my LFS coral guy.

DAY 111. Finally added my first corals. šŸŖø

So sadly, my local coral store has decided to close shop because of the rental costs šŸ˜«šŸ˜¢. He plans to relocate somewhere industrial location rather than a commercial space. I hope he finds something and is successful. In the meantime, he will be avail online and text for items.

In a plus note (for me) I got some good deals on items as he is trying to reduce inventory. I picked up a few corals this week and plan to return tomorrow for a few more.
3 ZOAS, a HAMMER coral & a MUSHROOM
24 hours in and the Zoas are open, hammer is opening just not to size as it was at the store just yet. Mushroom not as puffy but getting there.
Excited to finally go from a Fish to a Frag tank on its way to a reef tank. I also got a big piece of Green Star Polyp from a friend. Plan to split it in three and glue to the back wall.

SERPENT STAR Follow up: the serpent star is doing GreatšŸ‘šŸ˜ŠšŸ™. It found a little snug under the rocks it sleeps in during the day. I see his arms which is about it during the day. I see it late at night scavenging. Iā€™ve added bits of shredded scallop & shrimp once a week otherwise itā€™s been cleaning up the normal leftovers. Disc is plump and it appears healthy. šŸ‘

Beefed up the cleaning crew a little by adding about 6 more small hermits and couple more Nasarious snails and an another bottle of ecopods.

I may pick up another hammer tomorrow.
Progress
