How do you know they will live in captivity? Its too bad their lives have become an experiment.
It probably would have been wise to only collect one and see how it did before you harvested the whole beach?
There are many species that are illegal to harvest. You obviously did not know what these things were but went ahead and collected them anyway. I think thats quite irresposible personally.

PS I could not be further away from PETA logic in my morals...I just dont think this is good, responsible practice.

Cool animals tho! No doubt there.

Yes, I couldn't agree more. It looks to be more irresponsible than we first thought. http://fishbase.mnhn.fr/Summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=2643

I can't believe the way people are judging you for this. Simply for the fact that if you are even on this site it means you have a tank full of once wild fish that were plucked from the ocean. And many people who live in the tropics catch there own fish for there tanks, its nothing new, or illegal.

How about an update..... are they eating...
Looks like the Tang Police have nothing on the Eel Police

Where in the HELL do all you think your fish come from?

fish stores   :smokin:

Yes. I love this site. How dare you. LOL! I mean...Uh. You would pick up an innocent eel from the ocean and put it in a glass box? HAHA. I say sell them for as much as you can get and then buy tangs that are too big for your aquarium...from PetCo. LOL at the drama.

I've lived in Florida for.......well lets just say a long time.;) I have never seen those eels. I spent hours last night googling everything I can think of and can't find a native species that matches those photos. I think they are either very young and will change color with age, or they're not native. Just my opinion.

seriously people, back the F off. He was just wantin to look at something he hasnt seen up close from the comfort of his couch. If you are all so adament about removing things from the ocean, why the hey do you even have fish tanks? My brother and I do the same thing all the time. As long as he is feeding them and has them in a descent tank, than whats the problem.

I like your eels, and I like my brothers northern puffer that he caught, and my nephews Porgies that we caught, and all the macroalgaes that we colelcted wildly. now you can all jump pn my case and leave him alone.

Yeah, I used to collect things I had no idea how to keep and put them in my aquarium....when I was a child. I've grown up a little, and I now realize animals live longer and are more interesting to look at if you know what they are and how to keep them.

It's disturbing to see so many people, eager to defend their "right" to collect whatever suits their fancy without any knowledge of these creatures.....it's making you look like ignorant rednecks!

Here we go with the namecalling. Treehugging 101. When they are not buying the arguement, call them names. So funny.
No trees around here....just eels and the tragically ignorant.

Just as many people buy things at the LFS that they have no idea about.

Sad but true.

Grown up maybe in some areas, could do some maturing in other areas.
Cool looking eels, hopefully they will work out for you. On a small note, I do support a previous comment about catching one to see how he does in an aquarium. Keep the pics coming if they change color!
