Eel, snake, what's the difference?

My 2 "landlocked aggressives" (only aggressive if you are a rodent) - South Brazilian short tailed boa (Boa constrictor amarali) and Irian Jaya carpet python (Morelia spilota ssp.)

Sorry if this should be in the photo forum/lounge, but I spend all my time here...

Thanks LukFox! I got her in '02 and she was almost 4' then. She's probably a little over 5' now. Snakes and fish are my passion - I wish saltwater fishkeeping was as easy as keeping snakes. Here's another pic to show her banding up close - kinda blurry, sorry

She's a real good snake. As calm as a ball python when outside of her enclosure. Insane feeding response though. She won't eat rats either which is kind of a pain. She usually puts down 8 adult mice in a sitting (ordered from rodentpro)

I just got the boa two months ago. The lump 2/3 down her body is an adult mouse from 8/18. I'll get some better pics of her once she's done digesting.

Too bad you can't get her on rats. Feeding her like that must get expensive. She must be worth it though :). I'm thinking about starting to buy food from Rodentpro, too... Frozen mice are $2 each at the pet store... It's a much better deal online. I can at least do that for the corn, as she's full grown so a minimum order of 50 is fine. My new albino ball python is going to be moving up in sizes before she could finish a bag so it wouldn't work for her lol. She's only 7 weeks old.

Nice lookin' snakes ...especially, the Morelia spp. Have you tried scenting a larger prey item with an adult mouse ..maybe she'll switch over for you??

I have a few, myself ...snakes, in general.. still working on my first pair of Morelia bredli :)

LukFox I went to RodentPro because it is so much cheaper. The mice are of excellent quality as well. Shipping is kinda expensive, so I just order a lot at once to really make it worth my while.

Is your corn a normal or what? I love a nice clean okeete myself. I'd love to see the albino ball - I saw my first piebald at the last herp show and it was SWEET!

weluvfish thanks for the compliment!

AneesasMuse - I've tried all kinds of scenting and switching methods. I tried scenting rats with mouse urine, pinkies, etc. She'll sometimes strike a rat, but once she realizes it's no mouse she lets go. It used to drive me nuts, but I just accept her as being picky now, lol. :)

The corn is a hypo. Got her 8 years ago when my parents were convinced a python would kill me. Now they finally agreed a ball python wouldn't kill me at least lol. When I'm done with college I intend to get more, but this is my limit while I'm still with the parents.

Nice snakes! I've never seen a carpet python before, that is a really gorgeous animal.

I kept quite a few reptiles before I had kids (10 years ago). We were in a tiny house at the time, so I had to find homes for most of them. I used to have a rosy boa, ball python, several monitor lizards, true chameleons, Uromastyx and bearded dragons.

That is a sweet albino! Do you know who bred her? Does he/she go off feed a lot?

I've only got two snakes as well, the carpet is a little big to take to college so she stayed home (she lives in a 48x24x18 vision cage.) The little redtail is up here with me (she lives in a rubbermaid in my closet.) She should get better and better looking with each shed (tail will turn brick red to crimson.) When I'm done with school I really want to find a male carpet to breed her with. She's ready for some love :). I also plan on getting a chondro sooner or later (sorong/jayapura type.)

Lisa, nice list of herps there. I really love lizards, but snakes are sooooo much easier. You pretty much feed them every 7-14 days and then forget about them, lol.

Glad to see some other reefers share a love of serpents and herps too.

I've only had her for a week, but she took the f/t mouse I gave her immediately. She was produced by Michael Castillo. I intend to breed her when I'm done with college, too. To a spider, I think.

The chrondros are really nice. I really can't wait to get a blood python in the future. I love the red that the nice ones have. A little too big right now, though :).

LOL ...it is good that you realize and accept her for what and who she is ...finicky snakes are great, aren't they? :D

If anyone cares to see any of my gang, you can check them out here There's a few pics in my gallery :p

Aneesasmuse, sweet collection! I reall like the cresties, blue tongue, and sand boa (anerthrystic kenyan?)

My redtail is about to shed, and as soon as the light went out she went for a bath. The closet was pitch black when I took this pic, hope I didn't scare her too bad :D

If you meant that for me, then "yep... that's Puck!" She's a handful, too :D I think I am finally getting used to her saliva and don't have to handle her with gloves ...but she still tags me every move! I love her!!!

Thanks for the compliments! :) Boudin is my little Anery KSB ..just made a year, 3 days ago
