eel tank mates

Currently l have a zebra moray and just purchased a fimbriated moray. The zebra is about 1.5 feet long and about a inch around, while the fimby is about 10" and maybe a half inch around. Would these two work long term in a appropriate sized tank? Searched but couldnt find this particular parring.

well to be honest its a little late to ask questions cause you have already purchased the eel.

IMO once full grown the zebra will be almost double the length of the fimbriates. so i say no long term. im sure as long as they are the same size ish for the short term they would be ok

Fimby is purchased but not home yet, so it isnt to late and l never said they were together already.I just wanted to know if they would work. Hell l run 7 tanks now whats one more for the fimby? No offense to you double m, but if this site wasnt so big with so much info l wouldnt even come here anymore. 60 ish views and you were the first to reply.

i would hope somone with more experience with these particular eels chimes in. if im not mistaked one is a pebble tooth and the other is not. so im sure that their would be a conflict somewhere down the line would be my guess

btw i was not trying to call you out. im sorry if it came off that way

No offense taken, and l wasnt complaining about you either.

The pebble tooth vs. sharp tooth is my worry. That is really what l want to know. I see pics of two, three, four eels all together in the same tank, but not really these two types.

how thick do the eels get? if one gets way thicker than the other im sure one will be food for the other

From what l have seen and read they are about the same thickness, but the zebra could get longer. 3 for the fimby 5 for the zebra at max length.

I only have experience with the fimby and will tell you it is among the most aggressive of the "smaller" common gymnothorax in the hobby. it will probably work for a while given that the zebra is bigger and if the tank is large and hidey holes are plentiful. however the fimby is much more ferocious especially at feeding time which can lead to injury if they come across a food item at the same time. its happened to me a few times even though i use tongs to feed each eel when they are as far from each other as possible. personally i would not mix especially given how many tanks you have, giving you the option of not having to choose between one or the other.

I have a fimby that is a beast when it wants to be and a doll the same. I would say that in my experience with Grendel (my fimby) there is the potential for fits of random violence. He/she will not bother tank-mates at all for a bit then one day try to kill everything it sees. No method to the madness what so ever. He/she has not messed with the cleaner shrimp or the dogface.... yet.... fingers crossed. But his track record shows it is only a matter of time. He has either eaten or mauled the following; all types of damsels (including a 4" when he was only around 10"), chromis, foxface and clowns. I would say that if the tank is large enough, they are well feed and you are super cautious the risk will be lowered but still very very real.

It is sounding more and more like they wont work, that is fine. Fimby will be by itself. The zebra is so laid back its not funny and l dont want that messed up.

I have a fimby as well and can attest that they are monsters. Mine lives alone in a 135 although we will be upgrading to a 10ft tank in the near future so I am trying a find an eel thank would be compatable with him. I have never gotten bitten but it would send me to the hospital if i did. He is an awesome eel with so much personality though, I love him.
