eel

what is a nice eel that can be kept with other fish. maybe something that's not too common. it'll be going into a 130 gal tank with a trigger, a wrasse and a tang. i was thinking of a snowflake eel but i am now thinking of something that is a litle more uncommon.

You first need to decide what species of Trigger, Wrasse and Tang you want. Then, decide what species of Moray you want/can have.

I would recommend a Zebra Eel. They are very docile. We have one in our 90gallon with a Bursa Trigger, Dogface Puffer, Lunare Wrasse and a Lawnmower Blenny.

well i have a yellow tang in another tank but i'm not sure if that's what i want to put in since it's given me lots of trouble with new fish, maybe if i were to add it last, i don't know. i was thinking of a bluejaw trigger or a humu trigger, and a harlequin tusk, hardwick's or lunare wrasse. know whichs ones would go well together will help me decide.

You could go with a Zebra or a Goldentail they are both good with fish. As far as the other fish go i would go with the Blue jaw trigger and the Lunare wrasse and of course the Harlequin tusk. I have a zebra eel and when i decide to go get the new tank i will have a golden tail in there also with the zebra.

i like the zebra but they say that it will get to e about 4'9" and my tank length is only 5'0" so i am afraid thet it would no have enough swimming space on the bottom of the tank

CAN..... but rarely do. I have one in my 72g and hes doing great. He is already promised to my parents 300g when he gets too big... but he hasnt been growing that amazingly fast, despite eating like a pig.

I too vote zebra. Great personality. just make sure you install some PVC tunnels under your sand and rockwork.... eel will be much happier and acclimate much quicker. Mine ate the 2nd day in the tank!

yes that can be a little cramped for them mine is about 26-28 inches as of now and he is in a 75. He will be going into a 180 or a 210 by fall. Right now the 75 is to small for him. Than if i was you i might consider a goldentail they are smaller than the zebra.

Another vote for the Zebra.....I have a 30" in my 240 along with a 12" snowflake, a trigger, and 2 puffers. They are beautiful and very mellow. Mine is the gentlest soul in the tank....eats like a horse, acclimated easily and was eating within a day or two of acclimation......I have a couple of 2" PVC pipes buried in the sand and covered with rocks.....he has made his home in one of them and seems happy. He stays in there most of the time but will swim around the tank after "lights out". The goldentails look great also, never had one personally though.

I have four eels, 3' tessalata, 2' tessalata, 2' snowflake, 2' zebra. The zebra is the most aggresive of the four and chases the damsels in the tank during feeding time. Luckiliy it cant catch those fast damsels. I also heard that zebras are more active than other eels and swim around the tank (www.liveaquaria.com says this i think) Well, mine only comes out during feeding.

My vote would be for a snowflake. They are beautiful, who cares how common they are.

From liveaquaria

"The Zebra Moray Eel is an ideal moray for the community fish tank. It poses no threat to its fish tank mates or the aquarist, and is often out and about during the day rather than at night."

That doesn't describe my zebra moray unfortunately. If mine was a little quicker, it would eat my fish.

Zebra moreys are the most active eels during the day. and I don't think I am going out on a limb to say they dont eat fish. They might chase some fish but they won't eat them. their teeth (look like molars) are made for crushing shells not killing fish.

I am casting my vote for the zebra. even though I still think you should get a dragon eel. survival of the fitest

By far, out of the three species i have, the zebra is the least active and the tessalatas are the most active. Zebras and snowflakes both have the teeth that are used for crushing shells, but that wont stop them from eating fish. I had a snowflake that loved to chase and eat feeder fish and any other small fish (ie puffer) i put in with him. Im just going by experience here, maybe my zebra is just antisocial. Too bad, the zebra is a beautiful eel :(
