i currently have two eels in my 90. i bought a 180 and its about to arrive. i am really wanting to put a nice haddoni carpet in the 180 but am worried about the eels getting stung. the zebra moray i have is about 1.5 feet long and the snowflake is a foot. does their size give them an advantage? or are they pretty much just like any other fish who if they clip the carpet are doomed?

no, Blind Murray eels and carpets that have the most potent stings = dead eels and possible damaged carpet.

Disagree. I have kept a ribbon eel and 2 gigantea carpets in a 93 cube without incident for about a year. I have witnessed the eel rub against the nem's on many occasions without incident. I think their thick slime coat protects them. In fact, my eel has set up residence less than 4 inches away from one of the nems.

I believe Ribbon eels have better eye sight than say zebra Murray or snowflake Murray.
Not even in the same genus.

Lets say you going to feed that carpet, since the eels use mostly smell its not going to end well

Large almost blind bottom dweller is not a good idea with carpets.
What made you think it was good idea to get a ribbon eel onto a 90 gal that has two Giganteas??

Ribbon eels also have very small eyes and poor eyesight. Also, as I mentioned, he has indeed bumped against one of the carpets on several occasions and survived without injury. As for your question re: why I added a ribbon eel to my tank, I'm not sure I understand the issue. Both anemones and eel are thriving.

Clearly you did not know if they have some kind of slime protection before you put it into the tank.

Maybe it does have it but that does not mean other eels have it and maybe it just got lucky.

It is all around a bad idea.

And that is my opinion on it.
i try to think of my animals best interest.

You are entitled to your opinion of course. I am just informing the OP based on empirical firsthand observations. You do know humans once thought the world was flat and that if you went too far you would fall off, right?
