Eels seem to eat lionfish

A moray eel was found with a lionfish in its stomach. Maybe one day morays will control the population of lionfish in the Caribbean. I imagine the eels are learning to eat lionfish. It would be interesting to know if the moray eels from the Indopacific eat lionfish and control their numbers. Here is a link to the story

Bobbit worms eat lion fish too.

I was just interested in this because I have read from the experts that said lionfish have no predators and they will take over the ocean. I always thought eventually something will eat the lionfish because nature adapts.

Nature evolves. But the balance is still tilted in the lionfish's favor.

Some of the article, and others, point to opportunistic feeding from dive bags or wounded or ill fish. In other words they are not the main course today.

I have seen a barracuda eat an injured lion fish as well, they may get eaten occasionallly but not often enough to control their population

Video taken by a member of our group in Roatan last fall. As you can see the lion fish have a very effective defense strategy for predators. The eels we've seen haven't figured out how to overcome it yet. This eel was definitely working on it.

Very few things will eat a live lionfish more than once. Bobbit worms do eat them.
