egg crate over opentop?

Im going open top on my 24 gallon jbj nc to accomodate mh. Will using clear eggcrate to cover the open top reduce the amount of light coming from the mh? I want to add this just so I dont have to worry about my fish jumping. Thanks

Because mh is a point source light the intensity directly below the bulb won't be affected. However as the angle moves away from straight up and down the eggcrate will block some light. Don't know if this will be significant enough on a nanocube to be an issue though.


BTW, where did you find clear eggcrate ? I've only seen white or silver.

I heard home depot carries them, but have gone myself to see it. Anybody knows if significant light is blocked off from the eggcrate? Thanks
