Egg crate under sandbed

from my experience

PROS

evenly distributes weight of rock
keeps rock off glass or acrylic bottom

CONS

sometimes can be seen depending on flow/livestock

I won't ever do it again. It is very detrimental to wrasses and other things that live in the sand. I also found it hard to keep convered.

ive had some funky algae grow on eggcrate only when using it as frag rack. probably wouldnt happen under the sand tho.

Not the best idea...
Along with the other things mentioned
-the sand will clump up within the squares creating a lot of anaerobic zones which could lead to other issues
- if you ever want to take the sand out, it will be a nightmare
-I could see the egg crate still leaning/sinking here and there possibly creating rock balancing problems. Then trying to level things out...ish
-critters/fish bore under sand and the egg crate possibly creating support holes-rock slides
have fun

????? The eggcrate would be on the bottom...no way to move down, or dig under

That being said, I'd never use it again... Raise base rock up above sand with acrylic legs

We should probably derail this thread now, since the OP does not wish to participate in his own thread.....Besides, derailing is fun
