I dont' know if its an american thing, but I went to my local Home Depot in the Greater Toronto Area in Canada and they didn't seem to know what in the sh*t egg crate was...I need it more than ever since my dad bought me some fish for my b-day and I don't want them jumping...and I hate the glass cover...is there another name for it??

its with the lighting panels

some genius in every store seems to put them in some random section where they dont belong

ya and its only like 8 or so bucks for a 46x24 sheet or something...i remember that it was 46 cuz it was a weird size..most fixtures are 48"

anyways, what do you need it for? keeping fish in? if so, it'll block too much light imo. Everyone here says that it "focuses" light...i say nay...It just blocked a lot of my light and i tried it both sides and had 3 different verieties of it.

yeah...keeping 'jumpers' in...haven't had any jumpers yet.....but am going to get my tank into a reef eventually so I don't want to block light from my coral.

i hope i never have a jumper either....guess maybe i should just take the risk, until someone does jump.

You want the first one of these, BTW.

ABS plastic most likely...generally used in flourescent light fixtures so that you cant see the light unless you are directly underneath the fixture itself...takes the "glare" factor out of the light

It's made of plastic. Also, there are two sides to it, too. One side will focus the light, and if you flip it over, it will diffuse the light. Good stuff to know depending on what light you are using.

Is there different types of light diffusing eggcrate....cause googling it online brings up different looking materials..

google "Light Diffuser" in the image area. The picture that I posted is from my local Lowe's. If you have a Lowe's in Toronto, it's probably located away from the lights towards the back of the store. It's located with other diffuser panels.

A lot of people look in the lighting section. And BORG employee's are useless. Like mentioned earlier, you want to go to the area where the ceiling panels are for a suspended ceiling. If you ask "Where are your suspended ceiling parts?" you'll find it.

I recently purchased eggcrate in Lowes, when I asked two gentlemen that work there
- Where can I find eggcrate?

they looked at me like I am lost or something. And asked me
- What the heck is an eggcrate?

I told them it is a light diffuser that used on flurecent lights. They presistently keep looking at me, like I am from another planet. But one of them decided to guide me somewhere. He showed me soooo many light diffusers, but no eggcrate. Eventually we found it. On a SKU barcode sticker it had written "Eggcrate".

...resistance is futile...

You can usually find it pretty quick if you go to the lighting section. Anyone have any idea why it is called eggcrate?
