Eheim 1262 plumbing?

I just bought an Eheim 1262 as a return pump and want to get some ideas how others have plumbed theirs. Did you use PVC? Have a pic? This is my first SW tank so I am new and want to do it right! Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Rob

PS Guess I should mention I have an NON drilled tank, and my sump is simply a 39g plastic bin so it will be submerged inside the sump.

just using plastic tubing from your local hardware and run to the included connections, or you can run a 3/4 sch 80 thread into the pump and do it that way, many different ways can do it, and no particular "RIGHT" way

Make sure to put another seperate bin in it for your skimmer.
Running skimmer in open sump is a good way to think it doesn't work well.

Why would it make me think my skimmer isn't working? Not doubting you just curious as to why.

Also by looking at the picture of the 1262 it doesn't look as though it has threads so that was why I was wondering how others have done it.

Thanks a Bunch

The barb you see sticking out the top unscrews. There are female threads inside. Use a sched 80 (not 40) 3/4" MPT to slip fitting.

There is a threaded output on there as well (I think that there is either a fitting or the smooth adaptor just unscrews from the pump - I don't remember exactly.) I run about a 10" straight section of schedule 80 PVC that reaches over the lip of my sump and cap it off with a T joint. I then run flexible tubing to the returns off of both ends of the T. There are tons of ways to do this, but putting at least some flexible tubing in your plumbing helps to reduce the vibration.

OUT-FREAKIN STANDING!! You are all a great help! I was unaware the barbed nipple unscrewed from the unit, now that I know that the rest is ABCs.

Thanks Again!

Not to hijack your thread but I am interested in plumbing this same pump as well. I am currently running a SCWD w/ 3/4" tubing and will most likely need to add a ball valve to restrict flow.

Can I safely remove the sponge filter on the intake (dont want a sponge to clean every week!).

For one thing, the water level would be variable due to evaporation. I think micro-bubble problems would also be more likely. I'm sure there are other reasons.

The sponge can be removed

When you use the 3/4" MPT, be sure to wrap it good with Teflon tape. The threads are actually metric and the 3/4" will screw in a bit loose without the tape.

As you can see, sched 40 is too short.

I got it at one of those two, I forget which. Probably Lowes. They have a much better plumbing section.
