Eheim 2075 Cleaning Tips?

I'm thinking about cleaning the my 1 month old Eheim 2075 pretty soon.

I just had a few questions about the cleaning process.

Which parts of the filter should be ok to clean with tap water? I've seen people use tap water on the filter pad and actual canister, then use tank water on the media.

Also, how often should I replace the media and foam filter?
