Eheim pump: 1260 or 1262

I talked to the people who I'm buying the pump from and they said the 1260 ends up being like 300gph and that they have it on their 55g tank. So, I'm thinking... the difference in price between the 1260 and 1262 is about $10. Should I just go ahead and get the 1262 or will it simply be counter productive?

75g/29g

I have the 1262, for the price difference it was worth it. I added a gate valve on my return plumbing that dumps back into the return section of my sump to control flow to the display. It is also a very quiet pump.

I have the 1260 on my 70/29g fuge. You need about 5 times the volume of the system for flow, but most people forget the 5 feet of head loss. I have a ball valve on mine and it is half closed in order to get a slow flow through my fuge. The 1260 is probably way too much for the 55.

dsn112- I have similar setup but dont understand your reply. you say 5 times turn of set up but slow down for fug. Which is it?

go with the 1262, you can always divert it elsewhere, like into the fuge. with the price difference, go with the 62, it'll be worth it.

I would recommend the 1262. I do use a ball valve to restrict flow but I can also run it full throttle and not have any issues with a 1" drain line. It's nice and quiet and I also can open the valve to get a lil extra flow if I decide that I need it for something.

What I am saying it is recommended that you get 5x the tank volume in turnover after head loss. In my setup, Even though at full blast its probably right on for 5x turnover, I like a slower flow through my fuge, therefore I tune it down a bit.

I recommend the 1262 have it and love it I would get that over the 1260 for the price difference and if its to much flow you can always turn the flow down with a ball valve

the 1262 is total overkill for that system. Also, restricting flow on a pump is not an effective way to use it.

scotmc the flow can also be redirected back to the sump through a t off to add extra water movement volume to the sump if that is the route that he is going .

Most people get the flow in the sump, from the intake. Once again, it's more effective way of doing things.
