Eheim pumps

I am setting a 125 gallon tank with a 30 gallon sump. I purchased the tank used from someone. It came with 2 RIO return pumps. I wanted to change them to 2 Eheim pumps. Should I go with 2 1250 or 1260 Eheim pumps?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You could go with one 1262, or possibly even one 1260. You can just plumb it so it sends the return to two spots :)

What you do depends on how much flow you want through the sump. Assuming about 4' of head, IME the 1262 will give you around 800 gph which would be about 400 through each overflow. If you want ~300 gph through each, you could go with a 1260. If you want ~600 through each, you could go with 2 1260s.

Just one piece of advice -- don't go overboard with the flow from the sump. The pumps must overcome gravity and therefore the $ spent (and energy expended) are greater than using powerheads to get your flow in the main display. I agree with Ti that a single 1262 would be fine. Adding another will add more heat to the tank than necessary.

i'm setting up a 120 and going with a single 1262. Figure head loss, the flow would be right around 700-800.
