Wow I lost an election to a person who wasn't even running.

I wondered the same thing Michael. I know Paul is a very responsible guy and has been the treasurer for a long time but I thought you were the only guy running. I was under the impression that he was going to step down.

I guess you will have to take all those MJ Wins T-shirts and hats back for a refund. Kinda takes me back to 1948 when Truman beat Dewey when I was a young whippersnapper

Oh wait I wasn't born for another 20 or so years.

Sorry to make light of it. It would be frustrating to prepare yourself for an undertaking such as this and then find out you didn't have to bother at all.

Hope you can just shrug it off. On the other hand I hear we are still short a club secretary. *wink wink*

Im not sure what undertaking is need to decide to "RUN" for a office position but Pal did decide to run, so Mike didn't lose to someone that didn't run he lost to someone that has done a good job at that positon for years now. The secretarty spot needs filled Mike so if your interested contact Mike C.
Heres to a good year for the Club!

Maybe you should re-read what I posted. I think you may have misinterpreted my statement. I didn't say there was any undertaking to decide to run, I said he prepared himself for a large undertaking (ie. being the sole party with fiduciary financial accountability for the thousands of dollars the club takes in and uses on a yearly basis)
I know if I were deciding to run for a very time-consuming and important volunteer job such as treasurer it would not be an easy decision to make. For Michael to be treasurer it would be like someone who builds houses for a living deciding to volunteer to build houses for a club for free. I am pretty sure Michael didn't decide to do it because he would get out of paying dues for the year and, as you know, most of the jobs around the club are pretty thankless. That is one reason I try to thank the board members when we have an interesting meeting or speaker.

I'm not sure why but it seems as if you read everything online as if someone is personally attacking you. I have no problem with any members but was just stating that as of 5-17-07 Carole had said,"

Still taking nominations for ALL positions! Elections are at tomorrow night's meeting. All members in good standing may vote.

So I guess at the meeting Friday you decided to take on the V.P.'s responsibilities and Paul decided to stick it out another year. It's no big deal to me but it was humorous to see someone running uncontested and end up losing.

Thanks to all the board members for their service and dedication. You help make this a great club to belong to.

Board Member don't pay dues???????

I thought that was in the rules. Also anyone who does 2 articles for the newsletter will have their dues paid by the club.

Wow.

To clear up any misunderstandings--nominations for board positions, per usual club procedures, were taken right up until voting on Friday evening. Heck, we were twisting arms to try to fill some positions (again, as usual, unfortunately). There were three last minute nominations and Paul was one of them.

I believe there were 18 voting members in attendance. Paul won by majority vote. I counted the ballots and they are now in the posession of the new president Mike Canterbury if there is any question as to the results.

And board members ABSOLUTELY pay dues just like everyone else.

Sorry for this thread. I wasn't seriously upset or anything. After Erik's thread about stepping up to the plate I saw a position that I thought would go unfilled and had one of those "if you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem" moments and threw my name in. I just assumed it was open because Paul didn't want it. I wasn't doubting the accuracy of the count. Hell I would have voted for Paul too just so I would have to hound Mike Canterbury about why he thinks his reimbursements for services from "Cherry Blossom Outcall Massage" is a legitimate C-Sea expense. =)

I was under the impression Paul wasn't running either. I guess that's why he didn't answer my email inquiring about the position.:lmao:

Its not that I read it as a attack on me Kevin, I just know your sense of humor. Its much like mine :)

The secretary position is still open, Kevin care to take a go at it and Help the club?

Let me clear things up just a bit. This last week has been just a bit hetic as this was my last week at Reliable and I start with a new organization on Monday, no big deal but my tanks were in my office and they had to be moved, and thanks to Chuck, Peter and Amy it was accomplished. I have not read Reef Central all week and as Carol has explained I assumed that as usual we would have to beg for volunteers. I had no idea until Thursday that someone wanted to run for the position and unfortunately I could not make the meeting. As far as responding to emails my listed on the website is no longer active. Hope this clears the water.

No thanks Erik... I can't dedicate that much time and effort to other things right now. With work, 3 kids and their after school activities it makes it difficult to do anything other than run around dropping them off and picking them up. :(

I guess where I got the no dues idea was this:

" Honorary Membership

Honorary membership may be conferred by the C-SEA Board on any individual who has made a major contribution to C-SEA or whose affiliation with C-SEA can benefit C-SEA by lending knowledge or prestige to the society. Honorary membership shall normally be conferred for a period of twelve months.

There shall be no fee for honorary membership"

I think anyone donating as much of their time as it takes to be a board member should be considered a major contribution to C-SEA.

I have also seen the thing about 2 articles to the newsletter earning a free year and thought that is not very much work compared to being on the board.

Paul, I don't think anyone here is upset about it or upset with you. It was just weird that I thought Michael would be a sure thing into the treasurer position. I am sure he's a bit relieved to not have other things to worry about.

By the way, good luck on your new job :)

-- Kevin

My congratulations to the new Board. It appears to be a superb group of august individuals. I look forward to the continued success of C-SEA.
