Just having fun
I have givin this much consideration, and I hate to say it, but I will not be continuing on as Vice President for the 2012 year. I have had a blast contributing to the club, and may possibly in the future get back into office. I did volunteer for this position this time last year due to poor attendance and lack of interest. The club has undergone great changes in this past year, with membership being up and new faces all the time. It should be smooth sailing from here on out. I will still be around to make sure the transition is as easy as possible, and still plan on attending most if not all meetings. I would like to thank every one of you for your support and ideas over the last year. This club would be nothing without its members. And thank you to the other officers, its been great working along side you!

I checked on the Meeting Host list and it has Donnie and Lori Pool's home for the November meeting. Have we confirmed a date ?

Well..... As usual nothing ever gets organized at the meetings. No topic and no discussions. Noah and I brought some coral to trade with others but apparently everyone else wasn't interested in anything to to with tanks. Not quite sure where this club is headed.... If you all want a social club to just hang out, eat, talk and hang out that's cool. Let's just call it a social club and change the name. I for one am really interested in salt water tanks. I really want to learn as much as I can. Sorry for being hyper critical but I'm sort of getting annoyed with the lack of leadership, planning and organization. Maybe I'm the only one that feels this way. If I'm the only one, maybe I should leave the club. But if I'm not, I would hope those that feel the same will post a reply with your thoughts so those in charge of organization will know how we all feel. We can make this club really good but it's going to take a commitment from all members to be vocal about what you want with this club.

This was my exact thoughts that I shared with the club officers time and time again but unfortunately any ideas other than theirs are displayed as drama by the the electeds. Then if you post anything trying to make something actualkly happen they all write in and get your post removed. I tried to sponsor this club and bring education back to the forefront but they couldnt get over someone who doesnt like their ideas or practices, so they publicly dubbed me a "bad fit" and went on with their usuals. With the core group running this club right now its just to political and will never focus on what this club was created for. Travis was the only board member last year who tried to make things happen outside their tiny box of yearly repeats so they then kicked him out as well.

I tried to let others know about my new light that I bought at a lfs and was turned in to the mods accused of selling for that store, I was told who did it.
I'm not pointing fingers but this club's leadership need to let a few members know that there are other places to buy from and that people like to spread the word about good deals.
I have been a omas member for 5 years I only go to the lfs meetings and was hoping to see more meetings held in the storesand not just the one. I really don't do the private home thing.

I for one was impressed with this meeting. There was discussion on the elections and officers, and no one seemed to have an issue with the current leadership team. My position was available and nobody seemed to want it. Discussion on the Christmas party at spagetti warehouse next month with gift card exchange, and plenty of discussion on saltwater tanks. There wasn't 1 minute during the meeting people weren't crammed in front of that amazing tank discussing all types of things. And also the par meter was used. I for one didn't know a whole lot about the mushroom swap that was organized until moments before I left the house. I've been fairly Preoccupied and haven't spent a lot of time in the club forum. Besides a very small percentage of club members use the board. I do however check my pms daily. There is a thread on here for OMAS meeting topics. If you have an idea on a topic please post it up or let a leadership team member know.
No one from the leadership team ever said which store you had to shop at. You are free to do whatever you like. And shop where ever you want. I wool mug rather you buy local and put your money back into this town than an online retailer. I dont know who reported your thread, I'm sure it's closure had something to do with the UA instead of someone just not liking you. Have you asked a mod why it was closed. I'm sure the one who closed or removed he/she will tell you why.

Dude are you serious?This months meeting was elections.If your not happy then don't spend your 20 bucks to renew your membership.I didn't see you having any problems last night while we were checking out the tank with a beer in your hand talking with others.Last month we discussed about what to do if you lose power and to keep your animals alive.You have my number Nick if you want to discuss this further.

I guess I missed your thread about the LED system got.We try to have the meetings at homes so we can see how the members tanks are doing and see what others are doing in their reef tanks.I guess you missed the meeting we had a PetSmiths.

Two points 1- all the LFS are killer. I love every single store and spend a ton of money at ALL of them. This has nothing to do with LFS's. 2- I think you all are great people. I love getting together with everyone and having a good time. But if it's a meeting then let's have a meeting. Otherwise its just a social club. Richard - if you really thought there was a meeting then I guess I dont know what a meeting is. JJ - last night i asked you if there would be more DIY and hands on in 2012 since you will continue as the president. You laughed and said "no, I got re-elected so im not going to change anything". And BTW im a family member so i think its $40. I dont care about the money i just want to be part of a good organized club. The only way this club is going to survive is if the officers recognize there is no planning and organization and commit to changing it. Don't shoot the messenger. I'm a member not an officer. It's not my job to fix these issues. Looks like so far apparently I'm way off base and the officers don't see any issues with the club.... Hmmm. I wonder if there is room to start a new club...

Nick if you want change, you could have run for office. Or at next months meeting I will gladly step down and let you take over as vp. Doesnt really matter a whole lot to me at this point. And yes I really feel the club as made leaps and bounds in the past year to try to restore it to where it was once upon a time. If you want a lecture go to comas. We will not sit back and lecture and bore you with slideshows and the like (no offense comas. You guys rock). Our meetings are supposed to be fun and informative at te same time. Ya know now that I think about it. Didn't you bring a case of beer. Hmmm. That doesn't sound like you wanna be bored by lecture to me. I don't mind doing it that way if that's what the members want. I can make slideshows and elaborate presentations. But personally I like it the way it is

everybody chill out please. I feel there was no formal discussion because of the lack of information sent out and the untimely fashion it was recieved. im sure if you remember correctly, when i was still secretary the meetings were very organized and had topics. November elections is a mess anyways. There is plenty of room to reorganize, but you have to make public your ideas on places like this forum to be discussed. Nick, i think its pretty cool that you culture your phyto, and also think it would be a good topic at a meeting on how you do it, what its purposes can be, and how it acts in our tanks. But an idea for a meeting needs to be put in place at least a month before the next meeting, so whoever is speaking has the opportunity to prepare for it. And for all intents and purposes, it was still a pretty good turnout for a disorganized meeting with an email sent out the night before and no formal topics of discussion. As JJ has said, there was plenty of talk around Lori's tank, and if i remember correctly Nick, you were talking to me for a while about halide bulbs, pendants, corals, ETC...
There are plenty of people that are still active in this club, and though things may not be as smooth as they could be at this moment in time there is room for improvement. I agree that it is very disorganized right now, but we need to focus the effort on what to do about changing it than being counter-productive by putting people on blast for what they're not doing. I find it a little sad that nobody but myself wanted to run for office to have direct control over changing club procedures and attempting to make it a better club. If you think there is an issue that needs to be discussed, bring it up either here on the forum in a new thread and incite talk and ideas to be discussed, or at the meeting while everbody's attention is concentrated and for those who dont actively read this forum.

So what's the real reason you kicked him out last march meeting when you all confronted him at his truck in the parking lot because you told me on the phone it had to with his past situation and that anyone in that situation could never hold an office in OMAS. Or was it really the fact he started hanging around with me that exact month! I figured as soon as he realligned himself with "the one store" all would be forgiven. What a joke this club is now, really next months meeting is at spagehetti warehouse way to further the hobby guys! This is the perfect example of how if anyone says anything you guys sworn in and make stupid rebuttals proving further what we are saying. I never start drama just state facts get out of your bubble and look at this from a point of view other than your own.
